PhillyPA Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 I am recommending an interesting read. Encephalitis Lethargica: During and After the Epidemic by Joel Vilensky PhD In the beginning of the book it lists all of the diseases that look like Encephalitis Lethargica. The list takes up an entire page. Pandas, Lyme and mycoplasma are all listed. In case some of you are unfamilar with Encephalitis Lethargica - think of the movie about Oliver Sacks book The Awakenings. The patients in the book/movie suffered from this disease. Great read. If you want a page of disease to rule in or out this is the book where you will find them. The case studies were eerie. The similarities to many to mention.
Worried_Dad Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 Incidentally, there was a great book titled "Asleep" on this same subject a few years ago. Well worth the read, if you have time: http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7175&view=findpost&p=58259
PowPow Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 thank you for posting about both of these books~~ Another book to consider is "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat", a fascinating collection of neurologic/psychiatric case studies by Oliver Sacks. No PANDAS in there but I certainly read those stories in a different light as a PANDAS parent. I find anything by him interesting. His biography "Uncle Tungsten" is great, too.
