mommakath Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 LLMD's office called today to advise me that insurance has requested my full, entire medical chart from them to see if they will pay for my initial visit (and that's 'pay' at whatever ridiculous amount they decide is r&c for out-of-network doc). They asked if I wanted them to comply since they are not a HIPPA participating provider. I have not responded one way or the other but understand this is not the norm - to ask for the entire chart. Has anyone else experienced this? I want to collect my thoughts and know my rights before I call the insurance company myself. Why would they need this?
Suzan Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Wow, freaky, I would be nervous too. How much will you lose if you don't put your LLMD visits through insurance. My insurance won't pay anything. They put every claim I put through to a 3rd party and ask for more info and then deny it. Since most follow ups are on the phone, I don't even submit those since I know they don't pay for phone calls. Main thing I would think is to be sure they don't get ammunition to start denying other claims. I hope others have experiences or knowledge to share with you. You are being good to questionan and decide what is best for you before doing it. Susan
MichaelTampa Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Don't really know if that's normal or not, if that was requested for me, I didn't hear about it. I do submit my claims myself, but of course the insurance company can ask the doc for what they will, and submitting the claim includes signing something to give them the right to get the info. I do wonder if they could/would use it to deny prescription drugs and the like, that they otherwise wouldn't. Wish I had some advice, it does look like something to be careful about, but don't know what I'd do.
justinekno Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 We submit our LLMD claims and our insurance company did ask for some of my son's file from the dr. It wasn't much and I only found out about it when I got a bill from the LLMD for a copying charge. Our insurance has paid all of our claims and prescriptions so I haven't really thought much about it. I think if I had known ahead of time, I might have questioned it but since we found out about it after the fact, there wasn't much to do. I think Michael is right, when you sign the claim form, you lose some control. Don't really know if that's normal or not, if that was requested for me, I didn't hear about it.
