What to expect with steriods?

For those of you that have done 30-day steriod bursts, what was the dosage? My son is 7 and weighs about 53 lbs - the dosage is 30 mg/day for 7 days/20 mg for 7 days/ 10 mg for 7 days and 10 mg every other day for 7 days. That seems really high based on other posts I've seen.

 

Also..what side effects should I be expecting if we do this? Is weight gain significant in this timeframe?

First taper: (she was 6yrs old and weighed about 42-43lbs)

Day one—20mg

Week one—10mg 2X/day

Week two—5mg 2X/day

Week three—5mg 1X/day

Week four—5mg 1X/day

 

Second taper: (she was 7yrs old and weighed about 47lbs)

Week 1- 15mg 2x/day

Week 2- 15mg 1x/day

Week 3- 7.5 mg 1x/day

Weeks 4 & 5 - 7.5 mg every other day

 

I would say that she was definitely more angry the first 2 weeks during the bursts. I was happy to see her put on the weight because she had lost quite a bit from her reluctance to eat. The first burst was actually extended by 2 weeks to a total of 6 weeks, and she did get a pimple and fuller cheeks that didn't return to normal for a couple of months.

 

There were no obvious physical side effects from the second burst....other than her recovery to 110%.

My 6 yo (just under 6 at the time actually) weighed , maybe?, 45-50lbs-- was started on 40 x 7/30 x 7/20 x7/ then I think it got fancy like 10 x 3 then 5 x3 or something. It is high for a reason. IT WORKS (in our experience)

 

This young daughter did not experience weight gain that I noticed. She did have cheek puffiness for several weeks.

 

My older daughters (11& 12 at the time) did experience weight gain that held on tight for months

 

We saw NO improvement for 10 days minimum & more like 14 days, probably. By a month-- things were so much better, for all three of them.

I've just started my ds on a 45day tapering burst and just wondering did any of your kids get infections during the burst, due to immunosuppression and if so, what did you do, continue therapeutic dose antibiotics??
