vermontmoms Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Our son has been having arm tremors for two and a half weeks and we are getting very concerned. This is not like any tic that he has ever had. To me it is not a tic it is a tremor. I have made a video and posted it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktsFiyL7QYA Please let me know if your child has had something similar. If they have, what did it mean and what did you do for them? How do you know if your child is having mini seizures? We have never had a CT or an EEG done on our son and none of our 3 pediatric neurologists ever suggested that we have one. We are ready to demand one. Can our Ped order a CT or an EEG or do we have to get one ordered through a ped neuro? Thanks for your help!! Jen Ps. In the video you will see his muscle in his arm twitching and then you will see his normal hand tremor towards the end of the video. He has this tremor more in his right hand but can have the tremor in both hands.
dut Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Hi - our normal ped noted an arm tremor in our dd (then 5) in both arms during her 1st recognised episode. I wouldn't have noticed it unless she had said. We did nothing at the time specifically for the tremor and it went away when that episode ended. Dr B later said that he thought it was due to excess dopamine and just another PANDAS symptom... She doesn't seem to have had it in any subsequent episodes....

911RN Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 I have seen many seizures of many different types over the years, as a RN, for 24 years. I don't see anything in the video that looks like a seizure. Did see a few "tremors" like in his shoulders? Did notice him picking at his shirt which seems sorta ticcish?? Or OCDish, take your pick. Your Peds can certainly order a CT- I would insist upon it. All these kids should be medically cleared that CT head is normal. EEG- may need a Ped Neuro for that?? Depends on your institution. Worth asking Peds if he can order both and go from there. Good luck!
Minnesota Mom Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 My 10yr old son had something similar to this for about 2weeks. We have had a MRI and EEG, which were all normal. I think this is part of the PANDAS, chorea movements. I know how concerning this is. I don't think it would hurt to have an EEG just to make sure nothing else is going on.
beeskneesmommy Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 My DS4 had upper body/arm tremors on and off for several months after his acute PANDAS episode last Sept. These usually occurred when at rest, often when laying in bed trying to fall asleep at night. I did not view them as seizures and I felt that they were another neurological symptom associated with the disorder. As the PANDAS symptomology has decreased, the tremors have disappeared.
