ANRmom Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Hi, My 5 yo son's pediatrician is pushing back on the PANDAS/PITAND possibility. Can any one recommend a good pediatrician in the DC metro area who gets PANDAS/PITAND? thanks anrmom
tpotter Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Dr. Latimer in Bethesda. Just so you understand...she's a pediatric neurologist, but one of the top doctors that many of us use. However, I do recommend that you also have a pediatrician who can "coordinate" care. Dr. L. likes to know there is someone else out there to handle the coordination, and everything else. My recommendation is that if your current pediatrician is "open" to the dx, and willing to be the "coordinator", and listen to what Dr. L. says, then keep him/her, and also go to Dr. L. (I would go see Dr. L. anyway.) I've mentioned in the past, that I finally learned to have a team of doctors, since it makes getting the care easier (one doc may not be available, and they all have their specialties.) We use Dr. L, Dr. B., LLMD, DAN! doc (who is now our "coordinator"), and also kept our local pediatrician for anything that might come up (I keep him informed of everything, but he stopped being as open to the who dx, and when we really needed him, he wasn't willing to help to the extent needed.)
dcmom Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 If you live in the DC metro area- you are really lucky. We used to live there, and when there were actually able to use Dr L for all pandas related care. I pre set up appts almost monthly. We would attend many, but cancel if things were going well. Our ped in DC was useless. PM Tmom- she might have someone...
ANRmom Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 We have an appt with Dr. L later this month. But, I'm worried that the ped will not quite be on board in the treatment. I like the idea of setting up monthly appts, incase things crop up. Great suggestion! Does L consider T&A. My DS5 is still doing his coughing tic even after two rounds of AB. Should I take him to ENT consult prior to appt with Dr. L? thanks to all of you for your help! I'm still new to this and need all the advice I can get ANRmom If you live in the DC metro area- you are really lucky. T_Mom Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 Hi ANRMom, I am sorry you have to be looking for a Ps doc. but if you live in the DC area, DCMom is correct, you are near Dr L who is fantastic. I am glad you are going to see her. There is a general ped. in MD who just joined our pediatric practice. She was trained at Geo.'town and was aware of Ps as it was covered on one of their rounds. I am not sure how much she knows, but the fact that she had seen/heard about it in her medical training, well, I was encouraged. PM me for more info, if I can help--
