beeskneesmommy Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 My son just had labs that say that Myco igg is quite elevated. He had pneumonia last Oct., after his acute PANDAS episode. He originally had classic Strep:PANDAS. He had been getting better steadily intil last May when he had a fever but Strep titers did not elevate. After this, his symptoms although intermittent, were more severe, remeniscent of last Fall during his most acute time. It makes sense that Myco is playing a role at this point. Anyone know what the treatment is of different from Azith and what the prognosis is as well? Thanks!
dcmom Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 I think one of the pandas docs uses Bactrim, fairly successfully, for kids with myco/ pandas.
Kay Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 We found out about high igg mycoplasma in December of 2009. We did not treat this until September of 2010. No doctors at the time thought we needed to. We had only high IGG, IGM was normal. We treated with Biaxin for one month and it seemed to get rid of the last of the OCD issues. My daughter was being treated with augmentin (with great results)and remained on the augmentin while taking the Biaxin.
beeskneesmommy Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 Kay - am I understanding that your daughter is recovered? My son is currently on a new protocol from Dr. B in CT: Augmentin and Azith for 30 days. he prescribed this d/t my son's history prior to getting blodwork back. I just found out about the Myco because my son's other PANDAS doc from CHOP called and left a message with the info. Is Biaxin bactrim and is it more specific than Azith for the treatemtn of Myco? Thanks!

Thanks! Hi, I'm Kay's daughter (Sorry for post-jacking, Mom, but you're asleep ). The Biaxin really did take away the last of the OCD for me. I stayed on Augmentin just in case until May of 2011 and have been off everything for three months now without anything returning. The Biaxin was definitely important for me to do but we're not really sure why it worked. I did have the myco p igg and that's what spurred my doctor into eventually trying Biaxin after eight months of Augmentin/Omnicef hadn't completely relieved everything. I honestly don't know if Biaxin is better or what than Azith--hopefully someone else will be able to chime in with that.
beeskneesmommy Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 Thank you Kay's daughter! SO glad to know that you are well! My son, almost age 5 has been on Augmentin and then Omnicef for a year. Seems like his abx treatment has run a parallel to yours. I will definitely talk to his PANDAS docs about Biaxin. Thank you and enjoy your OCD-free life, dear girl! -Kath:)
