DD12 is on azythromycin for 6 weeks now. we have been seeing a huge difference.

Unfortunately, she has been having real trouble getting up in the morning.

This has been an issue before we started treatment, and supposed to be related to her anxiety. She never ever managed to get to school on time. NEVER. Not even the very first day of school. Our school was very accommodating and gave her allowances.

However, I feel that this problem has gotten much much worse since we have put her onto abx. Obviously abx does make a child tired; but this has become really unbearable. I mean sleeping until 2PM and eating breakfast at about 4PM on an off day. On a school day, she did make it to school by about 10am with cajoling, threats and even an occasional slap. I feel horrible doing this, but at this age I feel that she is failing the one responsibility that we are demanding of her. Now when she has the daycamp summer program, she first chose not to go so she can sleep and I sort of forced her to go. She needs to be there at 10am, but never manages it.

Is is fair to demand that she get up on time if her body is so ravaged with strep and abx? Is this a typical teenage stage? Anxiety? Or is this something that needs some disciplining? I am really at wits end; we have tried everything, I mean, everything ( bribes, threats, multi level rewards, etc.)

Thanks

What time does she go to bed? Does she have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? If something is keeping her awake at night, can she articulate what it is?

My dd who has PANDAS (or maybe Pitand) also has Lyme and Bartonella. I too, have found out I have Lyme and Bartonella. Before treatment both my dd and I were more fatigued than the typical person, but since starting Lyme treatment, we are both MUCH MORE fatigued. It's horrible really.

Slept 9 hours last night. Got up and made Lasagna and took my dd to the orthodontist. (had to wake her up ten minuted before so she slept 12 hours) When we got home, we both slept on the couch, on and off most of the rest of the day, till the middle of the afternoon when she went to the barn to much stalls with her friend. The only time I left the couch today was to visit with someone who came over for a swim in our pool and to put the lasagna in the over for supper.

We both slept several more hours on the couch today and I am still fagitued despite all that sleep.

Just telling you this story so that if you haven't ruled out Lyme, you might want to think about it.

Sometimes the strep or in our case lyme can bring out chronic fatigue. My son was so fatigued that he had to miss 3 months of school twice in 2 years. We are treating for lyme/bartonella now and seeing some improvement. This is not a disciplinary situation. Her body is just fighting and trying to recover its own way. Fatigue has played the biggest part for my son. Scared me to death the first time it happened. Luckly this last time I knew what to expect.

Just a thought-

what are/ were her pandas symptoms?

Could the sleeping be due to depression, or a cover for ocd/ wanting to avoid events (school, camp, etc)?

May not be the issue- Just thought I might mention.

We were thinking about this. Her symptoms are social anxiety, OCD, poor social skills, deteriating handwriting and fatigue. We thought that this was the reason (wanting to avoid events) at first. Now, I don't know anymore. The sad part is that she just accepted herself this way; she comes late, and this is making me very upset. If this is related to Pandas in a physical way, I think I will just have to be more accepting.

Thanks. How did you get past this? I am looking forward to the new school year?

Have you had her thyroid all checked out?

What about a CBC to see how her white blood cells/neutrophils are doing? If these are low, it can also cause fatigue.

Yes her white count is slightly low. I assumed this was due to Pandas. What do we need to do? My ped was not very concerned about this. Strangely when she started to abx her color immediately improved and she now has beautiful red cheeks....

We just had a CBC done, too, and my dd's white blood cell count is low. I was panicked, but our Dr. was not, but we have to re-do it to see if it is trending down, then he said he would worry.

Some things I am doing to try and boost WBC and low neutrophils- adding more Zinc- she has some in her daily multi, but now I am adding a separate supplement of 30 mg a day, and I just ordered a supplement called Neutrophil Plus.

All this may not be something for you, but thought I would share.

When I read your post, it seemed she was excessively tired- I would get a full thyroid check, and since you are doing a blood draw for that, also have her iron levels checked-

HTH-

By the way, my dd6 is not tired.
