michiganpandas Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 we went to a homeopath doctor who said Trameel would help with inflammation of the brain....Has anyone heard or tried this? Also, for those of you who give ibruprofen often do you give it (on average)...We are going on day 3 of more anxiety than normal and today the throat clearing tic was even starting to come back....I gave the Trameel today and it seems to be helping (so far)???....i can't figure out why there is more anxiety....she has not been around anyone who is sick and we are totally stress free and eating foods that have never caused a problem....the ONLY thing that is different is her ear piercing hole was infected and is now clearing....would that cause anything!??
dcmom Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 Well- if the infection engages the immune system at all, that could cause symptoms. I would continu dosing advil regularly for a few days (or the trameel ?? If it is working).
michiganpandas Posted June 29, 2011 Author Report Posted June 29, 2011 thanks....i might try advil tomorrow if needed....the trameel did help...(but, I'm not a fan of "different").....(within about 1 hour she was fine and the throat clearing stopped and is now outside playing in the water on the trampoline w/ her brother)....I was about to take her in for a throat swab b/c I soooo don't want to go backwards. (and this was the week I wanted to attempt to cut back on her zoloft...glad I didn't b/c I would have thought it was from that)....oh, i hate how i hate this pandas crap!
smartyjones Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) if you are seeing a homeopath, i assume you discussed or know the theory of homeopathy, so i'm not trying to be condescending but just want to remind. . . my very layman's speak.. . . the theory of homeopathy is to use a substance to engage a natural body reaction of clearing the troublesome agent or to help the body balance itself. a bit of a contrast to other meds that are to tamp down a reaction. so the traumeel may work in a different way than ibuprofen. i don't know how, but ibuprofen reduces inflammation. traumeel may reach the same end but by different means. i don't think i'd mix the traumeel and ibuprofen b/c you may be kind of canceling the action of each -- i'd definitely consult homeopath if you are considering trying both at the same time. also, it is very common in naturopathic med to experience a 'healing crisis' where things get worse before better, primarily b/c you are engaging the immune system to work on it's own. so you may be beginning to reach a desired end, but experience troublesome effects along the way. what we see as 'symptoms' are really the actions of the immune system trying to rid the infection and/or right the body (i'm stating that more in terms of 'average' infections, not so much the issues we deal with with pandas/pitand.) the first time i took homeopathy for a cold years ago, i had an unbelievable onslaught of symptoms -- had to leave a party early and go to bed -- roaring head, intense tired, clogged ears. i slept hard and woke up the next day with no cold symptoms at all. not to worry you more -- but there is also the issue of engaging the immune system that is functioning in an inapporpriate manner. we have used homeopathy with good results. i have confidence in our dr that he is skilled in the use with autoimmune conditions. did you discuss that with the homeopath? i haven't really heard of adverse effects, but with homeopathy -- you are attempting to engage an immune response to then get rid of symptoms, not just get rid of symptoms. we see an integrative MD who uses homeopathy. ds9 just had appt yesterday. he's been on an antiviral for 5 weeks. have seen improvement but last 1.5-2 weeks, trouble with sleep that had cleared long ago showed back up. dr believes is related to his body clearing this infection and should be gone soon. anxiety in your dd could be related to the clearing of the ear infection -- ? we used ibuprofen for ds on a temporary basis -- i think maybe only 2 doses a time at the max. i had wondered about traumeel but didn't try it. pls keep posted with your results. danddd Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 I give my dd10 traumeel when stressful things are going on, and I myself take it sometimes. I give about 10 little shakes into her juice in the morning and then the same in her water for school. I think it helps her with anxiety. (But there are times where I believe NOTHING will help). I am not sure exactly how it is supposed to work. I take it and I dont feel worse in any way (i have lyme). I had tried rescue remedy first, but did not see any help from that, so our acupuncturist said to try the traumeel. I like it because I feel safe giving it to her. good luck
michiganpandas Posted July 1, 2011 Author Report Posted July 1, 2011 thanks...it helps to hear someone else has used it.....I actually went to the homeopath dr. back in April...and I totally didn't trust anything from the visit (they recommended many supplements that all cost 20 bucks each)...I wanted to try other things first...but, Trameel was the only supplement I purchased that was recommended.....My daughter had the bad couple of days this week prior to the Trameel....then w/in an hour after taking it for the first time it helped....I would never give anything together, just figured maybe try advil the next day if needed....but, didn't. either way, thanks for the advice
