jenbug Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Well, we were exposed to strep last weekend and my DS and ODD started with the behavior changes aboutTues-Wed. We had the labs drawn on Thursday of last week, and I hope if they were starting a new flare that it was caught! Anyhow, he has a sandpaper-like rash on his arms and legs, which I noticed on Friday-today(Sunday). I haven't noticed any on his tummy, but I have heard that can = Scarlet fever, but he doesn't have a fever, just the behavior stuff. Can this rash be from strep, and if so, do you think the blood tests caught any in the system before the symptoms got bad enough to notice?
AnitaS Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 My son had Scarlatina (a form of strep) and had a sandpaper like rash as well. He didn't have a fever either but lots of behavioural symptoms. Things were much better after the antibiotics
jenbug Posted June 19, 2011 Author Report Posted June 19, 2011 Anita--Yeah, he just tested positive for strep on a rapid test about 6 or 7 weeks ago. He was put on 10 days of antibiotics, but I don't think it toaaly cleared. We were also exposed to strep again through a friend the weekend before. Dr. T. is running the blood work right now, so we are just waiting to see what it says. Has your son been dxd with PANDAS?
AmySLP Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 Mydaughter's only signs of strep were behavioral changes and then the scarletina rash, usually on her chest, but then sowing up on her thighs. Look it up on the internet for a picture. IF it feels rough and like sandpaper, its likely scarletina. It only comes from strep.
jenbug Posted June 20, 2011 Author Report Posted June 20, 2011 Amy--yeah it is rough and feels scratchy like sandpaper. It is on his arms and legs, but I don't feel any on his tummy or back.
