Sydsmom
Hi, My husband's aunt emailed me a post from an M.D. who said she's been using Krill oil pills for kids with Tourettes and for a few it's taking the tics away. She said she gives the kids 6 - 8 gel caps a day. I'm thinking of trying after we ask our DAN doctor but was wondering if anyone else heard of this. Andy
I think it is worth a look at. According to a salespage of the product, "Neptune Krill Oil -- a new era in Omega-3 supplements Most of the omega-3 fatty acids in ordinary fish oils are in triglyceride form – a form not readily absorbed by the body. Made from krill, a shrimp like organism that lives in cool Antarctic seas, the omega-3s (EPA and DHA) in krill oil are present as phospholipids. The phospholipid form of omega-3 is absorbed faster and more efficiently than the triglyceride typically found in fish oil. NKO™ is also rich in antioxidants such as vitamins A and E, and Astaxanthin (a naturally occurring carotenoid pigment that is a free radical scavenger). This NKO formula is made with 100% pure krill oil and does not leave a fishy taste". I have seen other forums mention the product as well. We use Nordic Cod fish oil ourselves. So maybe that part of the world holds alot of heathly products for our kids and ourselves.
kim
Lisa, This product was discussed on the autism/enzyme website recently. Karen B. (one of the moderators of that bd. and the source of a lot of wonderful info) and I were chatting on Dr. Neubranders site one night and she asked me if we were chelating or using Krill. She said it crosses the blood brain barrier and it appears to be pretty popular on that board. Kim

Andy
"She said it crosses the blood brain barrier " Kim, Are there any studies on it pulling out mercury?
kim
Andy, I know very little about the product. There had been a bunch of posts regarding Krill on the autism/enzyme board, and I had deleted them because I wasn't fimiliar with it and I have been trying to narrow my range of focus. Then Karen up and askes me that question, and I was wishing I would have read them. Your post gave me the most info I know about it. There also have been some posts regarding carnosine lately. They are mostly talking about which supplement to take it with. Someone said it needs to be taken with zinc to reduce hyperness, and they have taked about a product called Carnaware. http://www.carn-aware.com/ Most posts about results were postitive. As to Carn-aware, someone said it was a rip off and cheaper to purchase the supplements separately. Kim
FranklySpeaking
Hi, My son tics like crazy with Fish Oil supplements. I have read on this board, and others, that this is true for a lot of the kids!! Sooo, I would like to know if anyone whose child DOES tic more with Fish Oil supplements has tried Krill Oil? Does it have the same negative effect. I would love to try Krill Oil but am afraid it would be just like the fish oils. From Andy's post, since they are different in composition, maybe it WOULD be worth a try!! The very fact that there is no fishy smell is encouraging that they may be different enough!? Thanks, Frank
