floridalocal
Hello, this site and the book 'natural treatments for tics and tourettes' has been invaluable to us. my son has been experiencing throat clearing tics amongst other things for the last few months. My question and observation is, what about carbon monoxide poisoning(CMP) as a cause? a google search of 'carbonmonoxide poisoning and throat clearing tics' turned up many links from pediatric groups, neurological doctor books, universities, hospitals, doctor abstract/patient histories, wikipedia, etc. these links show either CMP as an 'aquired cause of tics', 'may be related to', and in the case of doctors' abstracts of specific patients tics occur delayed after the poisoning. in our case, my son had a varying several month exposure to car and bus fumes do to a safety patrol post where he was on a narrow middle covered walkway(roof overhead/forced inversion) with diesel buses on one side and hundreds(over the course of his post) of cars on the other side, he had an eary post for 35 minutes and a afternoon post for 15-20 minutes.. some days and times it was so bad i was chased away by the overwhelming fumes, so have others i checked with. he said the fumes were making him really sick and begged me to get him off this post. he felt he would get in trouble and get demerrits if he left. this exposure would include the five airborne carcinogens the epa tracks and acknowledges. i have only searched carbon monoxide first and was surprised at the amount of supporting medical links, yet find no mention of it on this board, in the book, etc. CMP is also linked to multisensory sensitivity(mcsrr.org), multiple chemical sensitivity, hypersensitivity, and intolerance, all of which my son has aquired in the last few months after months of CO exposure. there is so much i would like to add, yet no time, so let me start with this and see if anyone has input or shared experience. carbon monoxide exposure by itself is invisible to the senses, yet many can be exposed in different ways. since ours came from fumes of diesel and gas, it was easier to smell bad moments. conversely, if this is just coincidence then i will let the facts lead us that way, so far i have found alot of supporting early evidence for this cause, and our different symptoms over time support this hypothesis. it explains why he suddenly aquired tics and intolerance to so many things he used to regularly enjoy like swimming in a pool(now he says water sets off his throat, riding in a car(now makes his sick almost immediately),etc. Thanks again for all those who take time to post and help, we have identified so many triggers with your help, and believe his tics are much better thanks to the info here. he seems to be triggered by many of those listed here and in the book. i would like to post more details, hopefully in the near future, yet right now there is so much to do, just trying to find foods to eat(found out relying on a few safe foods doesn't work, he will go intolerant to them if we don't rotate), house projects to eliminate carpets and molds, etc, researching the causes and medical links to them(since we need help from doctors, not denials, and those doctors open to info prefer medical links perhaps), etc.. my heart and prayers go out to all. Best wishes, john.

Best wishes, john. Yes, I have heard of this, and explored it as a possibility in my case. Turns out it was not at the root of my issues, but the treatment I was given for this was nonetheless very helpful for me. The treatment I received was 2 hours a day of breathing through an oxygen concentrator for a few months.
