EAMom Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 okay...here's my (true) honey story: We have 2 budgies (parakeets). One of the budgies developed a wound that wouldn't heal ...bird vet sent home sulfasalzine (2x daily) ointment and and oral antibiotic to put in the water. I faithfully treated for a couple of weeks without much improvement. Finally I decided to try honey instead...I would put a drop of honey on the wound 2x daily (instead of the sulfasalazine ointment)...it healed quickly once I started the honey(btw, we were out of the oral antibiotic at that point, so it was just the honey he was on). It was amazing, even after the first honey application (12 hours later) the wound looked so much much better. btw. I didn't use any special honey...just what we had in the kitchen.
