MIAS_MOM Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 We have an appt. at All Childrens Hospital, St Petersburg Fl. with the Immunology Dept for treatment with IVIG. Our primary PANDAS Doc. right now is our Psychiatrist with our Pediatric Facility assisting when needed. All Childrens is about a 15 hr drive for us. Neither of our Doc's hometown are PANDAS docs, and do not know the follow up treatment. Will the Immunology Dept be our follow up guide afterwards ?

Will your local pediatrician work with them and take direction from them? We don't really have a local PANDAS doc. But, we have a very good pediatrician, who works with whatever specialists we see.
MIAS_MOM Posted March 29, 2011 Author Report Posted March 29, 2011 Our Pedatrician would follow up, as long as the Immunologist would provide direction for them. Our Psychiatrist is who has pretty much taken over, and helped us far more than the Peds, Could she prescribe the antibiotics or whatnot to follow the guidelines? We just saw her yesterday and she ask me to make sure someone would be following up, so I didnt think to ask her if she would if she had the info and right direction.

I think technically a psychiatrist CAN prescribe abx, but their expertise is with psych meds. The pediatrician is the one with the abx expertise and I think the insurance company would be better w/ the ped rxing as well. The immunologist should be able to include recommendations to the ped in a report-and the pediatrician should be able to call and consult w/ them as well. The pediatrician is supposed to coordinate care and services, so that's what I'd do.

First of all, wishing your child (and family!) the very best with the upcoming ivig treatment. It was our experience that a psychiatrist would not prescribe antibiotics. Eventually the pediatrician got on board and now does the prescribing.
MIAS_MOM Posted March 29, 2011 Author Report Posted March 29, 2011 That is so helpful ! Thanks so much.
airial95 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Mia's Mom, Are you going to try to see Dr. Murphy while you're at All Childrens? She's with the Rothman Center over there, and one of the PANDAS experts. If you're making the 15hr trip, it might be worthwile to see her while you're here, or Dr. Troufexis (one of the other Dr's in her office who we also see - my son loves her) Just wondering.

Sorry about the duplicate, I am a NEWBIE ! I called Dr. Murphy's office to make an appt with her, but the lady I talked to, after explaining our situation, said I needed to talk with the Immunologist, and she transfered me to them, where I went through the spill again, and this lady said they would take her for IVIG if we had enough documentation to send before our appt. We are in over 2 years, so have TONS of documentation, I have kept copies of EVERYTHING, and had med facilities realease her records to me after each visit. The only thing bugging me, is the doc they set us up with is actually a cardiologist, Dr.Nguyen. Is he into the immunology as well? Our mail we recieved from All Childrens has all Immunology info, with this dr, he is only listed in Cardiology at this hospital.
