JJMom39 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I just realized that Streptococcus thermophilus is in one of the Klaire Labs probiotics that I take myself. My PANDAS son has never taken this probiotic, but I am wondering if my taking it could be a problem for him?? I used to take it daily but now take it every few days. I feel like I should get it out of the house!
sf_mom Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) Its in yogurt, kefir and probiotics. We give both probiotics/kefir with streptococcus thermophilus in it daily to our PANDAS/Lyme children for over a year now and have never had a problem. We ran stool samples in August on our children and it is one of the good bacteria's in their guts that is registering the strongest. BUT, heck if you threw it in the garbage.... I'd understand 'been there'. -Wendy Edited February 23, 2011 by SF Mom
thereishope Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 With everything else, you don't need added stress. If you're worrying about it somehow affecting your child, just scrap it and start something else.
Kiera Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I give my ds with PANDAS a probiotic with s. thermophilis in it and he's been in remission for several months now so I don't think it affects him. However, I also wondered about this in the past and have read posts here where parents swear it does affect their kids so I guess it's a case by case basis and when in doubt, there are probiotics without this strain!
JJMom39 Posted February 24, 2011 Author Report Posted February 24, 2011 Thank you all for the input. I was panicking because my son's Dr. made a point of telling me that he could not have a probiotic with strep. therm. in it. It's interesting to me that some kids are okay with it and others not. I will probably scrap it and take something else. There are others I routinely take anyway, and I don't need the added stress or worry. Only one week into a PANDAS diagnosis and I am ready for a breakdown!
