Tamistwins Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) I know mycoplasma titers are supposed to rise before they come down but my sons rose came down and is up again. Can anyone shed some light on it. Igg 349 458 963 420 288 327 IgM 99 1140 1128 1128 1096 1271 Thanks, Tami Edited February 18, 2011 by Tamistwins
sf_mom Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) Here is a good article on chronic mycoplasma. http://www.drgregemerson.com/fact-file/mycoplasma It is my understanding that 'most' LLMDs will treat chronic mycoplasma for a minimum of 9 to 24 months with combo antibiotics. Titers are rising because the chronic infection is not being properly treated with current low dose prophylactic antibiotic typically used as protection for PANDAS treatment. -Wendy Edited February 18, 2011 by SF Mom
norcalmom Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 IgM show a current infection. That tiger will go down when infection has either cleared OR body has gotten used to chronic star of infection, and just stops making it. I don't think think these have moved enough to show any thing- beyond the fact that the antibodies will fluctuate a little day to day. IgG shows past infection, it can stay elevated for up to a year after infection gone, and it can ether kep climbing(like my sons which is 2450) in absence of IgM, or, like IgM the body just stops making it, but the infection can remain. You are lucky he is making these two titers. Mycop can be very difficult to get rid of. My son was on 500mg azith daily for 9 months..that was before we ven knew he had it! He has now switched to doxycycline, preferred antibiotic for mycop, and will stay on that at 200mg day (actually on doryx, a variation easier on stomach) for at lease 4 weeks, and then most likely will cycle to a different antibiotic. Pm me I can tell u more, but I am limited to my phone because I'm on "vacation" with my 2 kids until sunday

They are on azithro 250 mg 2x a day everyday and I recently added omnicef 1 x a day.
sf_mom Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Did he get worse when you added Omnicef? 500 Azithro wouldn't have fully treated chronic Mycoplasma. You really have to go at it from several angles with different antibiotics. NorCal Mom has been in correspondence with one of best Dr. on mycoplasma... she should be of great help. -Wendy
norcalmom Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Azith is used as well, and if it was a simple(not chronic) infection, would probably work. If you think mycop is source of neurophychiatric symptoms, it has gone beyond the typical infection. Do you know when he came Down with mycoplasma? Did he have respiratory symptoms, and a classic diagnosis- or is it something you uncovered because of pandas? If he didn't have it long, then azimuth might take care if it, but if chronic, as appears to be since you have taken at least 4 blood tests, I'm assuming over several months, is much more difficult to get rid of. I guess I can't get pms on my phone. Garth Nicholson is name of microbiologist that spoke at last years autismone conference, I got his name from dianna, who was there for pandas stuff but happen to hear him speak. His website has info , and he replied to my emails as well when I had several different opinions on my sons titers. Immed.org Sorry for typos-auto correct on my phone and tiny type to blame!

Rages over nothing, piercing ear screams I think I'm going deaf, physically having to remove him into his room.
sf_mom Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 (edited) If its a chronic infection with the addition of Omnicef I would expect him to be worse initially.... How long has he on the combo'd antibiotics? Typically a herx can start 48 to 72 hours and then can build in symptoms over weeks. I'll give you a couple of examples: Added Cedax 'antibiotic' to current Azithro/Alinia Jan 2. Fairly rapidly we had frequent urination (neg symptom), talkative manic moments - week 1 to 2 (negative symptom), reemergence of a cough - week 2 to 3 (negative symptom), a rash that covered his entire face - week 3 (negative symptom) but the mood liability magically stopped within 48 hours of new antibiotic (positive symptom resolution), gave up baby blanket, night light, snuggie, etc (positive symptom resolution). We are now seven weeks into new regimen and all the positive symptoms resolution have remained and all the negative symptoms have resolved except the cough. Cough is starting to resolve and we are getting decent brakes from it daily. With our younger son when we added an antibiotic in Oct he had two weeks of fairly consistent rages. Then they resolved and he's not had one since. So the rages, frequent urination, manic moments, rash.... were all herxing for us. I know its hard to watch but if he is worse I'd hold current antibiotics, focus on detox and let Dr. Jones sort it all out for you. You might even get some positive resolution in the timeframe prior to appointment. -Wendy Edited February 20, 2011 by SF Mom
