Phasmid Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Just in case we have anyone looking for another doc in SF area- our doc, Sean McGhee, M.D., has transferred his practice from UCLA to Stanford. I know there are other docs up that neck of the woods already, but he's very special. I don't have contact info yet, but will post when I do.
SSS Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Does he have his own infusion center for IVIG? How long has he been treating PANDAS? Thanks--in Northern CA. about 4 hours from Palo Alto (Stanford)
norcalmom Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Stanford will probably squish the pandas right out of him. You would think that in that forward thinking, research oriented, progressive treating, intelligent environment you would find at least one doctor supportive of pandas...think again. It starts from the top down. If there is one head guy that doesn't want pandas associated with the institution...good luck finding a doc there that will treat you. At least with something more than a round of antibiotics. I do know they helped at least one pandas kid, but it was pandas-anorexia, and the child was from what it sounds like, close to loosing her life. I hope he can make some headway with them. He isn't an immunologist is he?..that's what they need. A pandas immuno person. The "key" ped. immunologist there - "doesn't want to be a pandas-doc"...Well, I don't want to be a pandas - mom! So help us get rid of this thing!!!!!
SSS Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Yeah, I think I'm going to have to fly my daughter no matter which way I look at this. I do have an appointment with our insurance infectious disease specialist on Friday, but honestly, not holding my breath. Currently fighting for my own Dr. to pull my lousy titers.
Phasmid Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 You probably weren't TRYING to be funny, but you were! I have the flu and every muscle in my body aches, so it hurt to laugh!! Oh my goodness. Yes, he is an immunologist, going to HEAD UP THE IMMUNOLOGY TRAINING PROGRAM!!! He'll set them straight.
sf_mom Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 I concur with everything NorCal Mom stated.... I too had a bad, bad, bad experience there and spent over $12,000 outside of insurance seeking their help. They found nothing wrong with my children. Even though my children had Low RBC, Low WBC, high Lymphocytes, extremely low IgG 1 and 3s in my twins, strep pneumo deficiencies and repeat illnesses. Frankly, I got tired of the debate and moved on... -Wendy
amyjoy Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 Just a note for all northern CA people - we are here and Dr. Schweig is LLMD and we are talking with and seeing and treating quite a number of PANDAS kids. We do comprehensive testing (emphasis on comprehensive) for both PANDAS as well as predisposing conditions and co-infections. Anyway, I have this amazing opportunity as a PANDAS mom, to be a PANDAS provider. The combo of insights from my own child and the many I talk with / work with, its so intense and amazing. I love it, I feel blessed to talk with a number of extraordinary moms and kids, and to offer excellent, integrative and affordable medical care for PANDAS. If you're interested feel free to PM me. Lots of luck out there.
