advocatemom Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 SERIOUSLY!?!?! PANDAS DD!! has an OCD "thing" about clothing. She has one (1) white short sleeve t shirt that she must wear under everything else. She cannot put laundry in a hamper or touch anything that has touched her body previously until it is washed again. Well -- I failed to remove the white shirt from inside the dark shirt when it went into the wash. You guessed it -- white shirt is now grey! UGHH! Does anyone know how difficult it is to find the requisite short sleeve white t shirt in Wisconsin in the middle of January? Soaking it in bleach and hoping for the best.
PhillyPA Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 (edited) Hannah Andersson sells soft white short sleeve tee-shirts(under shirts). Go to their web site and get a couple! www.hannaAndersson.com Edited January 21, 2011 by PhillyPA
thereishope Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 I agree, look online...and buy a few to have on hand. Over time, hopefully you'll see this pass. If you do notice one day she isn't wearing the white shirt underneath, I may not draw attention to it. In time, when you notice some other symptoms fading, you can always have the white shirt ready to go, but not in her dresser or wherever else she leaves it and see if she requests it or what she says if you say you think it may not be ready. I often "tested" my son like this with his clothing issues. But I did make sure I also had at least one of his "go" shirts clean and ready just in case.
MomWithOCDSon Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Don't know if your DD is as style conscious as she is touch sensitive, but I find my picky dresser DS is quite happy with the Hanes label-free white t-shirts I can get at Target. They're very soft, no tags to annoy the back of the neck, and they come in packs of 3 or 5 so you always have another one on hand that's indistinguishable from another. So, if you DD wouldn't be upset by the concept of a "boy's" t-shirt, its a pretty easy and economical way to go!
browneyesmom Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 It's very hard to find them, especially in winter! I have to get them sometimes for our Worship Dance group, for both myself and DD11. Check Target, Wal-mart and online to get a few to have on-hand.
SSS Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Seriously, I've come home. I have found the mothership to our planet (this place.) My dd5's OCD with clothing can be a moving target. Months of NO long sleeve shirts, only certain (maybe...3?) short sleeve shirts, me cutting sleeves off of long sleeve shirts, THEN, only certain colors, to suddenly, 3 layered long sleeved shirts at one time, followed by, the same 2 sweatshirts only - (started school this year with the SAME outfit worn EVERY day for 14 days straight- I washed it nightly, I just wanted her to be able to deal with Kindergarten- as you all know, at the time, these clothing 'interuptions' can cause complete nervous breakdowns. Yes, I have run out and tried to duplicate- not successfully at times (seasons change, sold out) I know you've got the same white shirt- can you search online and buy a few? What I do now? Hide what she has worn so she can't pull it out of the dirty laundry. I laid it down- I WILL NOT wash EVERY day the same things- yeah, it was brutal. So, she has some rotational stuff she is now doing---all the same brand, we have found GAP outlet soft items acceptable. BUT, I have to hide clothes out of sight until next washing (now down to every 4ish days)
advocatemom Posted January 22, 2011 Author Report Posted January 22, 2011 S & S, Welcome home! Yes, my DD has exactly the same clothing issues. She has 3 short sleeve t-shirts form Aeropostale that she rotates but has to have the white t-shirt underneath because she refuses to wear a bra (she's beginning to need it) and I insist that she have more coverage. I even purchased a really expensive seamless sports bra but she won't wear it. She insists on only short sleeves even though it is -10 degrees out right now! She won't zip up her coat and she won't wear socks with her snow boots. The other day a boot fell off and she landed barefoot in the snow. She will only wear pajamas if they were purchased at Target -- WalMart & Kohl's are forbidden. No reason -- they just are. Yes, the t-shirt she likes is a Cherokee brand from Target. I'll have to try on-line and see if I can get about 5 of them.
browneyesmom Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 We have issues here with changing from clothing to pajamas and back to clothing in the morning - in part, there is the worry for her about 'accidents', which she insists occur more when she is bathing, brushing her teeth or changing her clothes. My solution was to just purchase soft leggings and long-sleeve t-shirts so at least she is more comfortable.
