Wilma Jenks Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 is the poor handwriting and tics more a symptom of pandas or lyme disease? my child does not have poor handwriting or tics.
Joan Pandas Mom Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 My son's handwriting completely deteriorated with his first exacerbation of PANDAS. Dr. Swedo noted it in her research that many kids had this symptom.
Wilma Jenks Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 that never happened to my child. so i wonder if that means that she does not have pandas?
KeithandElizabeth Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Both of my children have PANDAS resulting from lyme and strep and bartonella. My son had horrific handwriting and this is one of the reasons his teacher was very concerned that something was wrong.... On the other hand, my daughter never had an issue with her handwriting. So, I think that each kid is different and in this PANDAS journey, you should rule out all possible bacterias and parasites and viruses. Elizabeth
Wilma Jenks Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 Is the treatment the same for lyme, strep and bartonella?
EmersonAilidh Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Lyme, strep, & Bartonella can all be treated with antibiotics. The only thing to really watch out for as far as treatment goes is making sure not to treat P.A.N.D.A.S. with Steroids if you're not absolutely sure Lyme isn't at play. Handwriting problems are a huge symptom of P.A.N.D.A.S. (although it definitely doesn't mean your daughter can't have it if her handwriting is normal!), but I've never heard it mentioned in Lyme. My money's on P.A.N.D.A.S. with that symptom, but I suppose that muscle problems with Lyme could affect penmanship?
Bio and adopt Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Both my kids have tics. 15YO has terrible handwriting and no positive lyme bands. 20YO handwriting is not affected and she has two lyme specific bands positive.
