DS, tested positive for Mycoplasma and Chlamyidia Pneumonia. He had a horrible case of Pneumonia and Bronchitis when he was three, and several cases when he was a baby and toddler. DS, is 11. How long can this stuff hang around?? Do you suppose it has been there all along??

It can hang out for years if the immune system isn't strong enough to get rid of it. Sometimes it is called "walking pneumonia". Heard on an ILADS conference CD last night, Burrascano, saying the stuff is just everywhere, the labs can't even test for it because they can't get a clean lab where the samples would not get infected from the lab itself. This really sets back testing and understanding of how to treat, but he feels best way is to treat the borrelia and then eventually the immune system gets strong enough to take care of it.

Thanks for the information. It is strange, but before he did not seem to have a cough, but now that he is taking Doxycycline, he has this low level cough all the time. Nothing really comes up, but it is just there A LOT.

Thanks again,

Our cough is now gone but spoke with our LLMD on Wednesday about it because it was one of my son's first symptoms to appear and last TIC (?) to resolve. They said they see the cough OFTEN with Lyme and not sure why it occurs... could be coughing up toxin's, irritation, co-infection. THE GOOD NEWS, it goes away but it did take a long time for us.

Interesting hearing about the cough. I have had that come and go, it seems to have come back more as I started on some new drugs. It is very frequently while eating and not much other times. For others, is it frequently while eating, or just all the time?

Well, he had the cough on and off prior to sudden on-set for one year. We thought it was due to sinus infection. At sudden on-set the cough become more regular and was told it was a TIC... he coughed or cleared throat every three minutes and sometimes every 15 seconds. The cough waxed and waned throughout our PANDAS treatment post hdIVIG and disappeared at times when he was trading TICS. It finally stopped last June when we switched to Omnicef/Azithromycin combo. It reappeared when we forgot to give him one antibiotic for two weeks. BUT, I am happy to report all TICS are in remission/gone. I do think they may reappear as our Dr. forces a herx but who knows at this point since his bacterial load is down.

You are not going to like my answer but we heard the cough for 2 1/2 years off and on (1 year while being treated for Pandas and about 3 months off and on of Lyme treatment). I'm thrilled its gone and spoke with our Dr. about it because its was such a huge issue for us.

When your son gets ready to give it up.... I suspect it will come in flairs 'coughing' jags and will only be at specific moments of the day. It eventually fades in intensity and frequency like all other TICs. It might not take as long for your son since he is appropriately being treated for Lyme now. I'll be interested to know how it resolve.

Hang in there, keep up the detox and it will eventually go away. Remember slow and steady wins the race.
