kmom Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Oh my, kids started Bactrim last weekend for Bartonella and they started herxing but within 2 days they were reacting to the sulfur. It took 2 mores days w/o an abx to target Bartonella before seeing specialist and getting a new abx. Started Rifampin last night and the rage is coming out of my DS very often! What an exhausting day. I gave him charcoal midday. He also got an epsom salt and hyd. peroxide bath after dinner. I have bentonite clay liquid that I haven't tried. Do any of you ever do both in one day? Best to give bentonite clay at night? Our LLMD wasn't big on the detox but I have read so about how important it is.
sptcmom Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Bactrim can accumulate sulphites so I would keep him intensely hydrated for upto two weeks after stopping Bactrim with good alkaline PH water (alkaline water, Fiji water, Eternal springs from New Zealand all have alkaline PH) for a high urine output to eliminate the sulphites and restore balance. Charcoal and bentonite not on the same day just an adequate enough dose of either one and away from all abx. Detox bath- u can add baking soda, ginger, rosemary, eucalyptus, milk thistle as extracts and dead sea salts to intensify the detox as tolerated. You can use Milk Thistle extract non alcoholic for liver support. We do all of the above for DS 8.5.
NancyD Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 It's so hard to figure out how to space everything apart -- some things must be taken on an empty stomach, some things away from the abx. With school in the mix there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day! I give my DD bentonite clay the same time I give her probiotics, which is 3 hours apart from her abx. With school that's difficult so she gets it at 3:15 the minute she walks in the door and then she gets her next set of pills at 6:15, which includes her abx. So that means 9:15 for her nighttime dosage. Then lights out. When she was younger and had to take charcoal (she went to bed at 8 am then), I had no other choice but to have the nurse at school administer it, which she hated. I feel like a drill Sargent when it comes to medication and supplements!
mama2alex Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 If your LLMD won't give you a detox regimen, you might consult a DAN doctor. Our DAN doctor put my son on a fairly extensive detox regimen, and it seems to be working, as he's getting much better and we've seen minimal herxing. Here's what he told us to do for my 70lb ds: Thyroplex by Karuna - 1 in the a.m. (for thyroid support) Adrecor by NeuroScience - 2 in s.m. (for adrenal support) Cellular Recharge (homeopathic detox drops) by Futureplex - 1 in a.m., 1 at night Gentle Drainage (homeopathic detox drops) by Futureplex - 5 drops, 3x/day Bentonite Clay - 6 Tblsp at 3pm (away from abx, probx) Epsom salts baths several times a week Plenty of water every day Excercise every day - he repeatedly stressed that this is VERY important He also originally had him taking activated charcoal, but I couldn't figure out how to fit everything in during school days, unless I gave the charcoal and bentonite clay at the same time, which didn't seem to make sense. He's been doing ok without the charcoal though. He also wanted us to do the detox foot baths 2 or 3 times a week, but at $45 a session (not to mention 2 hours out of our day including the drive), we decided to try going without it, and this has been fine too. If we start to see a lot of herxing at another phase of treatment, I'm going to try these and see if they help.
