PANDAS

Heather & Alison,

I'll try again. Got some kind of an error message. Thanks for your replies. One interesting thing; when I did the spit test, both of my boys and I all had the stringy things right away. The next morning, mine was fine and so was my youngest sons. I did not redo my oldest son. I know this is not a scientific test, I talked to my sons Ped. He did not want to do the urine test, said he had heard people talk about it but dismissed it as a non-issue. He did order 8 vials of blood work. I wanted him to rule out diabetes because of my sons intense sweet cravings and excessive urine production (at night). He recommended a pill that is supposed to stimulate a chemical that causes people to urinate less frequently at night. Big surprise right? I want to rule out any known medical condition before starting him on Bonnie's vit. which I am giving to my 12 yr. old. I suspect the B vits. were causing hyper symptoms. I emailed Bonnie. She said there were no stimulants in the vitamins, so cut back and work back up slowly, or try to put up with it for a few days and see if it would pass. We cut back.

I had given my younger son 300 mgs. of B6 and 400 mag. one night; his tics stopped (mostly facial, soft vocal hmmm-hmmm) within 10 minutes, this was amazing! However, second day he appeared hyper-I got scared thought maybe I had given him too much(which I might have) now looking for alter. med Dr. and waiting for blood work. Ped acted like I probably gave him to much mag. and that's what caused stomach upset, he had had the stomach flu, but was still feeling a little sick to his stomach on and off. Since giving him the vit. I have looked a lot at the UL for Vits. and read alot more. I may try an individual program with younger and compare how it goes with my 12 yr. old. Still uncertain about Threelac ingrediants safety, but feel better that your DR. oked it Heather. Please let me know if you start Alison. Thanks! Kim

Alison-

Sorry, missed your post of 24 Feb. I get very busy sometimes.. My son's only been on the amoxicillin for about ½ year. We discovered the PANDAS about 2 years ago and were very reluctant to use antibiotics unless he actually tested positive for strep. Anyway, he caught the sniffles a couple of weeks ago (virus) and it didn't seem to affect his behavior at all. We were afraid he might get tics, OCD, etc., but he didn't.

My 10 y/o is doing so much better! Monday night he really was ticcing worse than I had ever seen him. I gave him a shake with some flax seed oil in it and the next day we sent him to school hoping for the best. He did not tic all day! In fact, he is virtually tic-free! We spoke to his teacher today and she did not notice any tics either. Thank God - we think this might be over. He goes to the family practice doctor on Monday to be retested for strep - is it very common for this to reoccur during later infections? When I read some of the posts on this board I realize how blessed we are that he is doing so much better.

Thank you so much for your help - this board has truly been a God-send!

Sherry,

What wonderful news!!!!! I am so happy for you all.

You ask if this is common to reoccur - unfortunately the answer seems to be yes, but you will get to be so vigilant about his health and any sign of a sore throat - and get him back on antibiotics. What we found was after the first outbreak any illness would set him off - although we had a very severe explosion of tics - and in retrospect his immune system had been very taxed with illness as a toddler, and then eating foods he was allergic to. My advise would be to continue to learn about PANDAS so you know what to look for and most importantly continue to build your sons immune system as you are already - ie. the flax seed. I sure hope that this does not happen again for you - I wish we had been that lucky. My fingers are crossed for your son.

Good Luck and I wish you and your family all the best.
