Do you know how families get it?? since its not contagious??
sf_mom Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 So, it's sexually transmitted and why both parent might have Lyme. It can also be passed from Mother to child while pregnant (Lyme and Bartonella) and that is why I asked about you. In our case, all three kids have congenital Lyme. You could have all been bitten independently by a TIC. -Wendy

lyme_mom Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Families also spend time in the same backyard and vacation together so they are exposed to some of the same risks. I think Mosquitos likely transmit lyme because we see plenty of those but almost no ticks. Dr j doesn't think my kids had Lyme from birth because they were very healthy until diagnosed around 10. He has told me many times that even if a patient is positive he will not treat unless the child has symptoms. He said he sees whole families of kids like ours and sometimes all but one are sick with lyme. Nonetheless I am with you-I had the whole family tested via igenex to know what our exposure was. When symptoms arose later we knew what it was and nipped it in the bud by thoroughly treating for Lyme. If I had known about this years ago I would have igenex tested my kids years ago to see if they had any antibodies.I would have given some symptoms that my son had in the past a second look had I known that they could be related to a tick borne illness. Good for you for following your instincts.

So, with my middle, she has had some attitude problems lately and she still wets the bed...is that a symptom? im not sure on that
sf_mom Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Yes, wetting the bed can be a symptom. Lyme loves the bladder and why you'd have bed wetting, urinary urgency and frequency. I have a copy of Dr. Ann Corson's side presentation from the ILADS conference for 2010. In it she goes over symptoms in children. I'd be happy to send a long a copy but I'd need your e-mail via PM. Our Dr. does not treat either unless you are symptomatic. Its important to have a great LLMD on your side to help determine if you child needs treatment. I think its much easier to address in advance of the immune system totally caving and you have something like PANDAS. All of my children have very unique symptoms while some symptoms do overlap. -Wendy
