Hi, I had Lymes as a child. I battled with it for 9-10 years. My last bout with it was at 23. Now i am 35 and a mother of 3 girls. My middle one diagnosed with Post Streptoccal Reactive Arthritis and PANDAS in July. So my question is could I pass the LD onto them? My older daughter tested positive for it inMarch. She had no rash. The only symptom was tired and headache for a few weeks. Now my middle one keeps testing neg. for it. But I think she has it. Based on symptoms. So any help would be great! Thanks.

I'm new to this so bear with me here... But I've heard that congenital Lyme is possible (if that's what you're asking). I'd send you a link but the only ones I've read have been from Google, hahah. Sorry I can't be of much help. :/

I think it's a definite posibility. I would try to rule it out (if that is ever possible with LD) before proceeding with any more aggresive PANDAS stuff.

TRADEMEIN: I am so sorry you suffered from Lyme Disease for so long...... and I am also sorry to say that YES you can pass it along to your children. I have three children with Congenital Lyme Disease.

Originally, my older son was diagnosed with PANDAS after a sudden on-set related to a strep illness in August of 2009. He was treated for PANDAS until August of 2010. When we finally pursued Lyme testing, two of our three children tested negative via the speciality lab of Igenex which looks for antibodies to Lyme. Often with Congenital Lyme, the child DOES NOT make antibodies for the bacteria because the body does not recognize it as foreign and therefore are negative for most tests. Thankfully, our LLMD knew to test for the DNA for LYME Disease in our son's urine. We have since pursued additional testing for the entire family.

Given your history... I think it is well worth investigating with an LLMD. As you may know, Lyme can present identical to PANDAS inclusive of a sudden on-set following an illness, vaccination, etc.

Yes, absolutely with the history you describe for yourself and your family, you should certainly have your child evaluated by a knowledgeable doctor and tested via Igenex labs for lyme and other tick born infections. Please see the link in this forum for finding a lyme doctor.
