SarahJane
My DS(6) usually has fun at OT. And insurance covers it. I guess I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't missing something that I should be doing. After we get IVIG, we'll see if he needs OT. (That's of course after I let him out of his human-sized hamster ball...I WILL get one of those after the treatment, right?) I am very hopeful that we'll see great strides & much improvement after IVIG...just like many of you. And if we need to revisit OT, then we will. But he threw a rage at one session based on them wanting him to do something one way when he wanted to do it another way, and it caused way more drama/stress than we needed. Luckily, the therapist knew that's not how he usually acts since it wasn't our 1st session. I am glad for everyone that sees progress with OT. It definitely serves a purpose in many cases! FallingApart
I haven't read all the replies, but here is my opinion. In the beginning (we are going on 2 years now) OT was extremely helpful to us! At that time our daughter's biggest issue was raging. DH and I are very mild mannered and were at a complete loss of how to handle this. We were blown away. In the beginning, DD had just turned 3 and didn't have a lot of communication (I believe PANDAS caused her to be a late walker and late talker) so the rages were EXTREME. OT taught us a lot how to handle the rages. We certainly couldn't make them stop, but we could get through them and possibly decrease the duration. I think OT got us through a very rough patch. Once we got our heads even with the water, we realized that DD was behind in everything. Not WAY behind, but behind. Enough that it was going to cause additional frustration for her, so we have kept her in. DD won't listen to us when we try to teach her-ride a bike, write letters, bounce a ball- it all creates a tantrum, but she will listen to her OT. For us it has been beneficial. AmbersMommy
Hi, my daughter had OT, PT, and speech, and it really did very little if anything to help her as far as I could see. She has been getting all these since she was 3. She is 6 now. She has speech, and motor delays. We are treating her for PANDAS and Lyme right now. On a positive note, I don't think OT, PT, or speech therapy actually hurt her.
