I posted this on the PANDAS site but thought I would post here too for those that don't go over to the PANDAS board.

As part of my son's immune workup for IVIG approval, his polio titers were checked. They came back as undetectable and our dr suggests having him revaccinated. In reading up on this,I came across this statement "in vaccinated individuals, the significance of a low antibody titer to poliovirus 3 (the least immunogenic vaccine serotype) is unclear". The labwork says something similiar. Has anybody had any experience with having their child's titers measured for Polio? My son received all three IPV vaccines in a timely manner but we have sworn off of vaccines for now. His dr thought the killed Polio was worth doing given the titers being low but I just don't know.

I have no evidence to back me up, but there is no way I am re-vaxing Pixie or starting vaccines for my 2 yr old. Nuh-uh! Personally, I bet if you took a room full of vaccinated people, you are going to have a lot who are susceptible to things they were vaxed for, including Polio. That doesn't guarantee they are going to catch whatever they are susceptible too, though.

I guess if I were really struggling with deciding, I would ask a DAN! doctor or someone who is more in touch with how vaccines can affect the brain/nervous system, etc and go from there. I don't think ANYONE is going to be unbiased, you know? You have to take info from both sides and weigh it out and see what you can live with.

For whatever it's worth, I'm certain that vaccinations were the trigger for my daughter's lyme relapse. She was treated for 2 years on abx and was symptom free (she had a lot of symptoms). She went off abx and was doing great for a long time. She then got 5yo vaccinations, and relapsed into neuro symptoms (only neuro symptoms). Which likely means we never kicked all the lyme the first time (she was too young to take cyst buster abx). But still, she had been doing fine.

I don't know how to put it all together, but I'm certain that the vaccinations were the tipping point for her neuro system.

Both our LLMD and Dr. K have advised us against vaccinating until we can be assured our children are well. When they are well, limited vaccinations, spaced out and to clear type with them first. Vaccinations can be a trigger for individual with Lyme.

Our LLMD said the same thing.

Met with our pediatrician yesterday who said that Polio titers are notoriously not a good judge of Polio immunity. He recommended not re-vaccinating (and this coming from a mainstream dr!).

So, why were the polio titers even checked?

As part of the approval process to get IVIG. The insurance co wanted tetanus checked and I think that polio is part of the blood "package" so they were checked too although not used as part of approval.
