That is interesting what was said about Zrytec. I have to observe him more to see if its affecting him also. Does anyone have any suggestions for other allergy medicine for kids? He does have the ragweed allergy. Also, if TS is inherited in my son's case would magnetsium supplements be helpful? Would a regular blood test show if he's lacking it or do I have to get a special one done? Thanks for any help on these issues! Mary

I believe there is a connection with allergies. My son 12 yrs old is suffering from allergies now and he's started with a few tics which I am stressing out about. He's got the knuckle cracking, uhm sounds and now a slight jerk where he drops his head down its like his chin touches his chest. He does that sometimes repeatedly 3x. I don't know what to do. I've been reading all the threads.. one moment I want to do the Espsom salt bath, then I read about L-Cartinine and now Kids Calm. I don't know where to start. I did start him with taking Zyrtec for the alleriges.

Hi Faith, Yes my son is 11 now. I tried the corn free diet for a little while but when he had corn he didn't show to be any different. I just felt that I could of went to a allergist closer in my area to do the same testing. At that time when you feel so helpless with dealing with it I was glad I found somebody to go to. It gave me some peace. I still watch what he eats and keep away from all the artificial coloring, etc. Did you do this for your child? Mary

Hi Debbie, I had visited Dr. Wojick about 3 years ago. I had purchased Shelia's book also for help and that is where I got his name from. From what I remember he does not take insurance and you have to pay additional for all tests. We spent several hours there with my son. It turned out he has a corn allergy. I wasn't overly impressed. I personally would not make a trip back to see him. I would prefer to find a doctor in the NYC/NJ area with experience in TS. Mary

Hi everyone Did anybody watch the show "Miracle Workers" last night on TV? It was at 10:00 pm ch 7 (ABC). The show was amazing. Its about a bunch of cutting edge doctors who performed amazing surgeries. There was a blind man who has lost sight for 22 years. They performed a special surgery for him and was able to let him see from one eye right now until it completely heals and hopefully will do the other eye another year from now. It was the first time he saw his three beautiful kids and wife. It was very touching. Anyway, next Monday there will be a segment with a young girl who has a very bad case of TS and I'm assuming will be performing some type of surgery on her. The previews did not say what exactly will be done for her but it did show you what her and her family life is like. I'm sure it will be very interesting to watch. Just wanted to let everyone know so if they are interested "mark your calendars". Mary

Kim, Sorry for my delay in responding. I've had computer problems but now I'm back online. Anyway, thanks for all the threads and response. Like I mentioned I took my son to the specialist and $300 later, I found out my son has a corn allergy. I was so shocked All the years giving him corn, syrup, etc he never showed an allergic reaction to it. Now since that came back positive I want to look into doing more food allergy testing. I might go back to my local allergist who takes insurance and see if they perform the tests the same way. Is there a difference with testing (prick test or injection)? His corn testing was done with injections. Now that he has a corn allergy and I'm looking in my cabinets reading labels its amazing how many products contain some form of corn. I guess I have to get over to a health food store. Thanks again and good luck with your boys. I'll keep you posted. Mary

Kim, Thank you so much for your input. Its nice to have support from other people who are going through the same thing. I'm really looking forward to Monday's appt. I hope I get something from it. Its gets confusing .. you don't know where to start first. What kind of tests were performed on your boys initially? The thing that confuses me the most with TS is there a difference when there is a family issue (in my case only my husband has it - we can't even trace it before him) and environmental issues? You read so much in all the posts and then you start second guessing everything. I have two other children who show no signs - my daughter is 6 yrs old and another son who is 2 yrs old. Does someone in your family have it? When you started with Bonnie vitamins who guided you with the dosage, supplem, etc. Thanks again for your support and advice. Mary

Hi all, As I posted not too long ago, my son who is 9 has TS. He's went from shoulder shrugging to a neck snappping movement. Any suggestions of what may help it?? I can't find a trigger. My husband has TS so I know its a gene issue. I do have an app't with a Dr. on Monday. He specializes in allergy, environment, etc. I got his name from Sheila's book. I took him to his ped dr. last week and he classifies his TS as a mild case. Of course, that doesn't help much. I found out today from my son, that when he's in school and has the urge to do it he asks his teacher for a bathroom pass and lets it all out in there. So far nobody in school has noticed it or asked him about it. (so he says). He's a very good boy... athletic , popular, good in school. This just kills me when I feel like he's trying to hide it. For now, this is the only thing he is doing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!! Mary

Chemar Thank you so much for your response and all the info. I guess the hardest part is to get started trying to seek a professional that can help. Have you ever heard of Dr. J.S. Wojcik? He was mentioned in Sheila's book and he's from NY where I am. Maybe he's a start for some testing. Thanks again. Mary

Hi Its been a long time since I posted. I need some guidance. My son who is 9 yrs old is starting some tics. I get the occassional eye blinking here and there when he's tired. Its been quiet for some time. His last episode was when he was sick over the summer with strep and he started some shoulder shrugging and neck movement upwards. Just the other day he started with the neck and shoulders again. He's currently not sick. I've haven't taken him to any drs yet. My husband has TS and is under a drs care. Meds for my son is not an option for now becuase they are mild. He is taking Omega-3 pills since the summer. As a parent you feel so hopeless because you just want to be able to stop it and you can't.... Where do you start?? I already know he has TS so there is no reason to see a neuro. Do I just see his ped dr and request blood work or do I have to seek preventative med dr etc. What types of blood work should be done as a basis to start? I've been so distraught dealing with this. Its such a critical age for these children to deal with this. When your son asks you why can't he stop it it kills you inside. You do everything for your kids to protect them in this world and its a horrible feeling when they ask for your help and you can't do anything about it. All the info you read gets so overwhelming. In regard to my son his diet hasn't changed. He's eating and doing the same stuff he's always been doing so how does TS just come out like that?? I'm sorry to go on and on with this ... I guess I had to get some of it off my chest. Thanks for listening!! I appreciate you help. Mary

Thank you Chemar for your info. At first its very overwhelming you don't know where to start. But I guess the first thing I have to do is find an alternative dr. If anyone has had any success in the NY/NJ area please let me know. Thanks again for the info and I will keep you informed. Mary

Thanks evelyn and kim for info. I'm really interested in the alternative med for my son. He's 9 yrs. old. I would not put him on meds for what he is doing now. My husband has TS and he's one of the cases where we can't trace it in his family, not that really matters anyway. I do have my son on Omega-3 vitamins and I'm looking to see what else I can do. He does have seasonal allergies and other than that he's your typical energetic boy. He does not do any vocal tics. Do I just seek an alternative doctor? Thanks for you help. Mary

Hi I'm new here. I do not know where to start. My son starting showing signs of tics. At first it was eye blinking for a few days. Now it stopped. Now he's shrugging his shoulders. What do I do first? Please help.... its so upsetting. Thanks Mary
