  1. Thanks for the info! I have a lot to learn. I took pennicillin 2 years ago for the strep and that was it. I am now currently taking magnesium, calcium, and zinc.. I am TRYING on my diet but it is very hard. I am 17 years old and I lift weights to stay active so it is hard finding food. I cut fast food out and mostly everything else, but at school I have a milk usually. I am working on cutting that out too.. My room is a pretty big mess also and my house doesn't have an air cleaing system to my knowledge. I am going to ask my mom about a food allergy test so I can see what I can't eat. I definatly think PANDAS is involved too. These digestive enzymes. Are they over the counter? But yea I am really looking to do anything to help. These last two years have been hard enough going through high school but to have this on my back too. Very rough. I feel though, that if I can come out of this on top, I will be able to get through anything. This information is great though. Without it, I wouldn't even have a hope with this.
  2. Hello, I was reading some information on PANDAS but I am not totally clear on it. I am 17 years old and had tics when i was 6.. then not until I was 11 and 12.. Then an absence until I turned 15... I am 17 now and still have them since I was 15. I have had strep throat numerous times when I was younger, when i was 11, and 3 months before it came back when I was 15. I was wandering if this could be the cause for it and how to treat it. I was also allergic to a lot of things as a kid and I have respiratory problems... Asmtha and am allergic to pollen and such. The supplements of magnesium, calcium, and zinc helped for a while but tics are coming back. I am also verrry stressed right now.
  3. Well, this site has been great and I read a line from another site that scared me. I may not have read it right but the line states, "Why is the environmental medical history so important? Unless an environmental exposure history is pursued, the etiology or cause of the diagnosis may be missed, the treatment regimen prescribed may be inappropriate (possibly eliminating or masking the symptoms but not eliminating the cause), the exposure to causative or aggravating agents can continue, and the illness may progress and become irreversible. Also, the opportunity is missed to alert others similarly exposed and at risk. " I have been buying supplments and they have been positive. I am going to go to a professional on tourette's soon though but I was wandering if their is anyway I could mess myself up and make my disease "masked" as the site says. The address is http://www.ourlittleplace.com/tourette.html Please clear this up for me/
  4. lol, yes exactly the same time about the same thing. I was looking at my multivitamin and it does contain copper. Any suggestions on a multi without copper?
  5. Claire, Thanks for all of your responses. I just have a question about not taking cal/mag and zinc at the same time. I saw at the store that there was a combination supplement of zinc/magnesium/calcium. Is that different when it is all in the same pill? Thanks.
  6. Well, I now have 7 supplements I'm going to work with.. Any tips on dosage. I am 170 pounds... I have.. Magnesium, Calcium citrate with vitamin D, Taurine, zinc, 5-HTP, B12, and B6. I also have AST Multi Pro Vitamin (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/ast/multi-pro.html) I need a schedule for the vitamins.. I am thinking.. Morning... 250 mg magnesium 500 mg calcium citrate 50 mg B6 100 mcg B12 500 mg Taurine Afternoon AST multi Vitamin Before Bed 50 mg Zinc 250 mg magnesium 500 mg calcium citrate 50 mg 5-HTP I am trying to take the magnesium and calcium every 12 hours to get a 2:1 ratio as directed. 1000 mg of calcium a day and 500 mg of magnesium.. Any suggestions on this? Should I add anything.. Take away anything? I was thinking of buying magnesium taurate but it's about 10 dollars for only 60 pills. I would be taking 4 a day since each pill is only 75 mg. A little expensive for me.
  7. Claire, So if it does have to do with the PANDAS, then eliminating the yeast or whatever the strep left could reduce or even elimate tics? This sounds very interesting. Since I had the strep a few years back, I haven't been tested for strep since. Now that I think back, when I was 10 when the tics came back, I was home for a week and a half with strep throat. Well, I am going to go to the doctor's to get tested for it and see what the results are. Thanks for the info.
  8. No, I have never actually been diagnosed with it. When i was around 6 and 10-12 I only had vocal tics. Never had any motor tics. Then I had no tics until 3 years later.. The tics began again 2 months after strep throat and after my grandmother died which was a tramatic event for me. Maybe this has something to do with them starting again? I also had strep throat alot as a kid...Ever since the tics started again, they have been 95 percent motor with only a head nodding up and down. It is bad but some people don't even notice I have it because I try so hard to conceal it. It's tough though. Sometimes i have an urge to motor tic though, because all I think about is my tic and it makes me think of when I used to do motor tics lol.. It sounds ridiculous but I may have a little OCD too. But does anyone have any idea if the strep throat would have anything to do with it or a tramatic event to trigger the tics back again. I am hoping the tics dissappear again for a final time this time and don't return. Good luck to everyone.
  9. Wow, three days since I stopped drinking milk and eating eggs. Also aren't eating artificially flavored foods and it is getting increasingly easier not to tic. Still going to clean my room. It is a mess and hasn't been dusted in about 6 months. Also adding calcium, zinc, and niacin to my vitamins. I am asking my mom about getting tested for allergies too and seeing about the bontech site. Thanks for the responses.
  10. Hi, I am a 17 year old male with a mild case of tourette's i'd say. My only tic basically is shaking my head up and down. A lot of people don't even notice I have it, but it is because try so hard to supress them and do them when no one is looking. A few people have noticed though and caused embarassment for me. My tourette's started at age 6.. Lasted a year. Came back when I was 10.. Lasted until I was 12. Then it returned again about a year and a half ago! I can't get rid of it. I read that b-6 vitamin is very good. Last night I bought b-6, b-12, and a magnesium supplement. That is all I bought so far because I wasn't sure what else to get. I will seriously take any kind of vitamin to help me. Money is no big deal. I took those 3 this morning and my tics definatly got a bit better. It was easier to supress them. Anyway, I want to even better treat this. Any suggestions? By the way.. I have asthma and allergies. The asthma isn't that bad anymore but I get allergies during a few seasons of the year. I was also allergic to eggs and milk when I was younger. Oats also causes more tics. I used to have vocal tics when I was younger but now I only do the head shaking. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. This is something I'm very determined to make best with.
