  1. Dr. L gave us the same advice. For us, it was because my son has a history of bronchiolitis and the secondary infections that are occuring from H1N1 seem to be affecting the lungs. I was against it but now I am just scared! Unfortunately, my son also just got over another virus and is not healthy enough to get it yet. We have to wait a few weeks. I hope he will be able to get the shot when we can find it. I can't believe I am even saying that!
  2. Just wanted to comment on the yeast issues. We are in the same boat. We have yeast overgrowth that we have been dealing with for years now. Cannot get it under control. We have been gf/cf, dye free, SCD (that was hard on my son!) and used digestive enzymes. I have not ever been able to do a low sugar diet which I know would be helpful... but my ds is 4. It has been hard enough to work with the other stuff. ANYWAY, we had no success with fluconazole so we stopped using that. We finally tried a product called Enhansa. It is a curcumin supplement that is supposed to be good for yeast. We re-ran an Organic Acid test after he had been on it for about four months (well a fraction of the dose) and his yeast markers had come way down. They are still not in range but they were significantly down. His doctor didn't think this could be from the Enhansa because we are only at about 1/8 of the dosage... but we have not changed anything else. We just started an antibiotic with Dr. Latimer so I am worried about the yeast. I am trying to increase the supplement but I am not sure what is going to happen. The die-off reactions can be bad as I am sure you know. Just another piece of the puzzle!
  3. I was wondering how old your children are? I get a lot of information from reading the board but then there are a lot of differences in my child as well. He is only 4 and I am wondering how many children are under age 5? This age can make it hard to distinguish development / personality from symptoms sometimes.
  4. Smartyjones, I am not sure. I think she thinks the gut because of his stomach issues from very young and then the diaper rash that she thinks might have been rectal strep??? Not sure. I just asked if the Augmentin would get the strep if it was in the gut and her response was "yes, that's where I think it is."
  5. Oh I definitely don't think the antibiotics are the full cause of anything. Of course, who knows what the cause is at all!! I just don't know if in our case, the antibiotics set up an environment to let the strep take up in the gut (Which is where Dr. L believes it is in my son). I believe there are a million different stories out there of how we all got to this one place. And like I said, we were not sudden onset... so who knows when this even began for us?? Oh and I was strep negative and ended up c-section anyway.
  6. Erica, I have wondered the same thing for my son. I had infected c-section and was on Augmentin while breastfeeding. Not long after, the stomach issues started for him and then the diaper rash (rectal strep maybe). We had no sudden onset because he was so young we probably missed some things. When he was two we noticed some things were "off" behaviorally. We have had two obvious exasperations though recently!
  7. I don't usually post because we are new to the whole PANDAS life. But I hope that everyone will keep an eye on this foundation and web site. I know that Saving Sammy believes that ASO is a "test". I would hate for that myth to be spread even more than it already is. We have gone down the PANDAS path two times and been told we were not dealing with this. We still don't KNOW if we are but we finally followed our own gut and went to see Dr. Latimer. She believes he is a PANDAS case even though his ASO was low. FYI... I know the Saving Sammy recovery was many years ago. Dr. L told me that she also believed low titers would rule out PANDAS when she first started dealing with this. So that could very well be what they were told at the time and they were lucky enough to have the high titers. But obviously, research has changed. And we need to make sure parents know the current facts.
