  1. The homeopath is a "classical" homeopath which means she does one remedy at a time. She also treats autism spectrum and ADHD (and I'm sure lots else but I only know about this) She also recommended some common sense behavioral changes. she uses a single daily remedy (pellets) and then briefly has special remedies (could be pellets or pellets dissolved in water for a liquid remedy) for various purposes. the increases in symptoms were short lived and seem so to only happen if the remedy was the correct one for ultimately improving the tics, so I would not avoid homeopathy for this reason. you could wait until the next school break so there is less school disruption.
  2. just a follow up. we ended up having my son get the thimersol free (you need to insist on the single dose application as opposed to the serum drawn from a multi-use vial) and he did not have any increase in tics, thank goodness. It is difficult to know if the homeopathy is helpful or not because we have made so many other changes (Gluten free, dairy free, lower salicylates, lower oxalates, mostly corn and soy free, and lots of vitamin supplementation based on Great Plans Lab testing and food changes based on ImmunoLabs IgG food sensitivity results. The homeopath does not reveal the remedies by name. However, she (the homeopathy) has been very accurate about some of her predictions (ex, this we cause a brief increase in symptoms followed by period of decrease, or this one will jump start his growth spurt followed by a slight increase in tics and then a low symptom period. She is treating the other behavioral issues as well which she things are inter-connected). So, in general we are definitely continuing with the homeopathy, but can't identify it as the main thing that has helped. Be sure to find a homeopathy who specializes in children and has treated lots of similar cases before. One person I called initially said she had never treated tics but would be willing to try.
  3. We are trying to decide on whether to have our son, age 5, the flu shot this year. He has motor tics, but did not have an increase following the flu shot last year. Our homeopath advises against his getting the flu shot. However, the risks from getting the flu can be severe, especially in a chld. Our doctor's office offers thimerisol free flu shots and because we are concerned the potential severity of a bout with the flu we are considering having him get this vaccination. We are wondering if others have had problems with their child's tics worsening after thimerisol-free flu shots. Thanks.
  4. I totally related to the poignant part of your post where you describe how much work the research and lifestyle changes require. It can consume your life. I'm so glad you have your life back.
  5. Definitely. my son has B6 and B12 deficiency discovered on the Great Plains OAT test. Even so, supplementation with P5P caused him to become hyper and have increased tics. I'm not sure yet if it was primarily the P5P (form of B6) or the methylcobalamin (form of B12) that cased the exacerbation. Because he clearly needs these vitamins, so I discontinued and restarted after a couple of weeks at a very low dosage. Periodically need to discontinue. Let me know how things go with your daughter.
  6. Have you explored the salicylate connection further. Lowering salicylate content in the diet is a key aspect of the Feingold diet. Salicylates can lead to hyperactivity and restlessnes, and quite possibly increased tics. there is more info on http://salicylatesensitivity.com/ or you could Google the Feingold diet. There is a Feingold society that you can join as well. I think there is also more info on this if you search the archived posts for this list.
  7. has anyone tried the product Glutathione Plus Topical Cream from Springboard (http://www.springboard4health.com/store/more_glutathione_plus4.html). Our pediatrician recommended Glutathione cream. this product has a number of other ingredients, and I wonder if these will be helpful or harmful for T.S. kids. from their website: As a solution our unique liposome-mediated delivery system, is a transdermal glutathione cream with supporting raw materials and co-factors involved in the methylation process needed to enhance the efficacy of the glutathione. Such nutrients as Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC); the basic amino acid needed to create glutathione, B-12 in a methylated form called methylcobalamin assisting the body to produce more glutathione and absorb it better; Glucosamine Sulphate providing the sulphur component necessary for the methylation process of detoxing out the metals from the body; and L-Carnosine, a dipeptide (two amino acids, L- Alanine and L- Histidine), known for its ability to chelate metals out of the body are all found in this high potency formulation.
