matis_mom Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 DS has been on the generic version of Augmentin XR for about three months... he has not been doing as well as on the brand name one. Although we've had our dealings with strep and that could be the reason, I wonder if others have found it just as effective as the regular one. I have an appointment coming up and I might ask the dr. to prescribe the real thing.
MomWithOCDSon Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 We've been on the generic for the last five months and have noticed no difference in its efficacy.
matis_mom Posted August 29, 2010 Author Report Posted August 29, 2010 Good to know it's working without glitches... can't blame it on the generic then, huh? Better take everyone in, yet again, to check and make sure they don't have strep AGAIN!
Pace2009 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 I've not been on this board in awhile (moved a couple of months ago, dd on Augmentin XR and doing amazing). 2weeks ago it was time for a refill, they filled it with the generic form. I was thrilled since we pay out of pocket. Now 2 weeks after the switch and my dd is falling apart. No tics yet but irritable, anxiety, etc. I'm at a loss as to what to do.

My internet keeps hanging up on me!!! After an initial glitch I think the generic is working just fine. So if you see an increase in symtoms, I would be more inclined to think he's been exposed. so GET EVERYONE CHECKED, including your ds, just in case (our ds got an ear infection while on XR, and it was the brand-name one!!!) Keep us posted! Isabel
laure Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 I am using generic augmentin purchased online, but all I could get (no script) was 500amox/125clavulanic acid. I give it to her 3 times a day. Anyone see any problem with that much clavulanic acid for an 82 pounder? That plus 2 advil 3 x a day is keeping the lid on (most days, with meltdowns at night usually) until we see Dr. B in 2 weeks, counting the hours... running out of soft soap on a daily basis!!!

Laure--I love that soft-soap comment--and understand! I think you should check the clavulanic (sp?) level for the weight--I know it was a concern for us as well. As far as generic or name-brand Augmentin XR, we thought there was improvement on the name brand, better then the generic for our d (or so it seemed.)
