Help Finding Nutritionist

Susan

Recommended Posts

My son is 11 years old and after 5 doctors finally diagnosed with TS, OCD and ADD last April. I refused to medicate him and tried more natural alternatives until school this year. He could not read, write or pay attention for more than a minute. I tried a few meds that did not work and finally found one that put him in control and now he is back to an A student when they wouldn't even give him a report card the first semister.

I am trying again by reading and printing all the helpful information here to feed him right and give the proper supplements, because I believe this has a lot do do with diet and exercise. Now, I am a single working mom in a man's line of business that I feel has been forgiving through so many hours away for testing and doctors appointments and surely the heartbreak and stress have taken quality time from my son and work.

I must hire someone to go through my kitchen - throw out, grocery shop for me, cook and show me how to prepare meals, if not, the stress and no quality time with my son will overwhelm me. My question is, has anyone done this? What did it cost you? Where did you find someone reliable?

I am in Sarasota Florida and tried to google several titles like Nutrionist Sarasota etc., nothing. I'm going to try the hospital tomorrow. Have hired help before for the house (nanny when baby and cleaners), when you place an ad in the paper, people don't read your needs and have had as much as 25 calls in a day with people that just think they can do it and cause me more issues and headaches when given the chance. I need someone who has done this for their own family or has schooling.

Does anyone have advise or a lead for me?

Thanks Susan

Hi Susan,

Well, I did hire a cook once when my son was first born. We found her simply by word-of-mouth thru our friends. She was not really an exceptional cook but she did appreciate healthy food. We probably only had her for a couple of months but she was a saving grace and worth every penny. If I were you I would list something like "personal cook" needed. I would ask that they be experienced in the type of cooking you are looking for - i.e., vegetarian, or macro-biotic, etc. Also, when placing an ad, I would not list my phone number but only email address. You can make up a temporary email address on hotmail in a few minutes and then request they send you resumes. I have had to hire numerous sitters and used Craigs' list to do so. I often am bombarded by people but find it's much easier this way than having people call me as I can weed out a lot of inexperienced people or those I just don't feel right about w/o any personal contact.

Congrats on your plan. Being that you're a single mom I think it sounds great that you've come up with an option to help balance your time for you and your son. Everyone will benefit!

Best of luck,

Renee

Thanks, any suggestions help. Found another TS mom on the internet from Sarasota and she works at the hospital, will meet here this Saturday at TSA meeting hoping she will have information.

What is Craig's list, is this an internet job referral service?

www.craigslist.com

You can advertize a job/part time work for $75 and will get a boatload of emails--better than phonecalls. I too have used this, but for business.

When I looked for childcare, the place I had the best luck was the local university. Seemed to get energetic, intelligent people, whereas newspaper ads were a disaster. Who knows, maybe the same for a nutritionist?

Good luck.

Claire

Susan, My daughter also has the combination diagnosis of add,ts,ocd. She is taking a couple of meds that are helping with the anxiety(oh yea that too) but no help with the add and only minor help with ts. We are awaiting a puloria test because I still am hoping for a natural heal. She has c's and d's in all subjects and these have been modified. My question is what meds have been successful for your son? He's an A student!!! fantastic- I think my 12 y.o. has so much potential so I keep searching. Thanks for sharing-Audrey
