EmersonAilidh Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 (edited) On the list of Texas P.A.N.D.A.S. doctors that I got off of here, there is an "ear nose & throat" specialist. Is this just because strep is in the throat? Does anyone have experience with these kinds of doctors? What exactly can they do? _______________________________________________ (edit) One is a "pediatric specialist", one is a clinical psychologist, one is unlabeled, one is an "allergy, asthma, & immune disorder" specialist, & one is just a pediatric neurologist. Do these titles really matter? Does anyone have any words of advice or recommendations as far as who would be good to see? Edited July 27, 2010 by EmersonAilidh
MMWG Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 I know there is an ENT doc near us that has written some research articles about PANDAS, specifically looking at whether the removal of tonsils might be effective in reducing strep in PANDAS patients. I know of her because she was the attending doc when my son was hospitalized for a bacterial infection (which we now think was strep) following the removal of his tonsils. So yes, I think some ENTs are interested in PANDAS because there are ENT procedures that may be helpful in treating PANDAS. That's my guess...
EmersonAilidh Posted July 27, 2010 Author Report Posted July 27, 2010 Thank you! I found them on the forum so I think that this particular doctor is interested in P.A.N.D.A.S., that was just the only title that stuck out to me, hahah.
thereishope Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 An ENT can also prescribe prophylactic antibiotics.
EmersonAilidh Posted July 28, 2010 Author Report Posted July 28, 2010 An ENT can also prescribe prophylactic antibiotics. Are prophylactic antibiotics the ones typically used in P.A.N.D.A.S.?
NancyD Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 Are prophylactic antibiotics the ones typically used in P.A.N.D.A.S.? Prophylactic just means preventive measure.
