Guest Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 I went to Dr. Robbins in Florida for allergy skin tests, vitamin deficincies, and mercury, lead, levels, etc. The vitamin, mercury, lead aren't back yet. I spent 3 days in their office being tested. I am severely allergic to Ragweed. The other things I'm allergic to not including the delayed ones I posted here before are: S. FL Weeds Mix, S FL Trees Mix, S.E. Grass Mix, House Dust, Dust Mite[F], Dust Mite[P}, Histamine, Candida Albicanis, Alternaria, Asperguillus, Hormodendrum, Penicillium, Fusarium, Mucor, Northern Trees. Then the foods that showed immediate reactions are: Chocolate, Corn, Egg Mix, Milk, Soybean, Tomato, Wheat, Yeast-Bakers, Cheese Mix, Chicken, Cinnamon, Garlic, Sugar-Cane. I take 4 shots a week. One for the pollens, one for the molds, and 2 for the foods. I was given the option of giving the shots to myself or taking them to a doctor's office and having them do it. At first I thought I was defintly going to the doctor's to have it done, but I decided to have the nurse try and teach me to do it. So now I can give the shots to myself. When I got home and it was time for my first shot she let me call her and she walked me through it. When the nurse gave me the skin test for the milk and there were a couple others she did at the same time I got a headache right after. So she gave me histimine and it took the headache away quickly. She said usually that takes the headaches away. Karen said I can eat these things since I'm being treated for them. She said I just need to make sure I rotate them and not eat a lot of pizza in a week, etc. The other things Dr. Robbins recommended are: Zinc at bedtime cause he can tell I'm zinc deficicient by my white spots on my fingernails, a multiple vitamin, and Flaxseed oil since fish oil made me sick and made my tics worse Then he suggested seeing an Osteopathic Physcian that specializes in Manpulation of the spine because my Scapula (shoulder blade) on one side sticks out further than the other. Then once we get the results back for mercury, lead levels, etc. and vitamin results he'll have more recommendations. Karen also gave me histamine drops for headaches. She said histamine will also take away any food reactions I have. Carolyn
Claire Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Hi Carolyn, Good for you for doing such thorough testing!! I have given myself my own shots at home now, and have for 20 years--but for molds, pollens, dustmites...not foods. It is much more convenient that going to the doctor's office. I am VERY interested in the shots for foods. I really want to see how they work, so please keep us posted. I have read good things about them, but never talked to anyone who actually tried them. Are you from Florida, or can they mail you the antigens for the shots across state lines? Wow, a lot more turned up on this test than the last one. Are you going to really try this out? I noticed the sugar/candidas allergy. So this makes a big difference in treats (e.g. sodas, candy, desserts)--most have cane sugar or corn sugar/syrup. By the way, I found that chromium (100 mg/day) and L-carnitine reduce sugar cravings. Of course yeast itself causes sugar cravings. Wheat is a tough one. I would see if Whole Foods or Wild Oats let you order on-line. Bob's Red Mill has lots of non-wheat/non-corn flour choices. We watch corn and wheat also, it is a challenge. Rice is a big choice for us! Yes, I have heard again and again that zinc at bedtime is best. And it really seems so individual as to fish oil vs flaxseed oil. Are Karen and Dr. Robbins different people? I still think checking to see if they can get you an LCD monitor at work might help you a little bit. Would there be negative repercussions for asking? (or was it at home that you had the CRT monitor?) FYI, with CRT's as a trigger, most people don't notice DURING the computer session, just as you don't usually notice a food trigger immediately. You have to eliminate for a while to notice. By the way, have you seen any improvement since you started? Please keep us posted on your progress, and on the mercury results! Good luck! Claire
Susan Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Claire: I am in Sarasota Florida and thanks to your posts on this web site I have made notes on where I can get started to get help for my son. I have written down a lot of tests that should be taken for discovery. I am now trying to find the right doctor that can not only administer but has experience in TS patients. Once you go through 5 doctors just trying to get a proper diagnosis, just put finding another doctor in front of you. Do we have any posts that recommend an allergist or MD in my area, I really don't want to go north to Tampa. And, just as a note, it might be a good thing to have a section where we can name names of doctors that have put us through ###### and expense and those that are educated in the sydrome and can be of help. Thanks Susan
Guest Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Yep, I'll keep you all posted on the food shots. No, I'm from Nebraska. Yes, they can mail me the antigens across state lines. Yes, I'm really going to try this out. Yes, Dr. Robbins is the doctor at the office and Karen is the nurse that does the allergy testing there. I had a CRT monitor, but have a laptop now at home. Yes, maybe small improvment since I've started, but I've only had 2 days of shots so far.
