Claire
Hi all, Every once in a while I disappear for a little bit because work intervenes. All my clients seem to be handing me consulting projects at once right now. So I am going to try my best not to post for a bit. ***SHEILA ROGERS, the site editor is writing a book which should take this overwhelming information and make it easier for a newcomer to think this through. Sheila will of course address other triggers and all kinds of natural treatments. She of course is years ahead of all of us and trying to spread the word to help others. I am really excited about this...I have seen nothing like this done on natural methods directly for tic syndromes. A ton of info exists for autism, adhd, but this seems so neglected.*** Lauramacf, Marina and Caz, If your kids DO truly do the no screens week, PLEASE post the results either way. If you don't mind, you might send me a PM when you have finished it--again I am interested either way. Of course I care to see your kids get better and for you to solve your own puzzles, but now for another reason.... In part I want the overall 'no screens' stats for Sheila's book--maybe it will give some doctor who reads it the motivation to formally test this or to suggest it for there patients, and ultimately take out some of the guesswork. It is only one possible factor I realize, but one that is not commonly identified. And if the small LCD screen solution works, it is certainly more attractive than medicating. (Though unfortunately I think the type of game does still matter---otherwise Gameboy wouldn't be a trigger for so many--it has a small LCD monitor). I keep wondering if the combo of computers in the house (observed much more closely than the small TV's when we grew up), the metals issue from the thimerosal accounts for at least one subgroup of kids with tic syndromes. The metals depress the immune system, and thus other food sensitivities occurs (salicylates, gluten, amines...). Plus yeast issues from antibiotic/steroid use..... Okay, so I am digressing! Lauramacf, I emailed Sheila that you actually had a doctor recommend no TV for tics. She asked whether it was possible for you to email her with the name and phone number of your doctor. It certainly adds to the credibility (in the absence of a study) to have a doctor quoted who has observed this in his/her patients and recommends no screens for tics. Your own name would of course never be brought up. Her email is sheila@latitudes.com I will be back posting once I come up for air again. See you soon. I just need some self-discipline, because I work at home on my computer all day, so coming here is my social break too. When I come back, I will read all the posts I missed of course.
