has anyone of you or your children been tested for step in your sinuses??? today i went to my family dr. because i have been having a stuffy nose for about 4 months. while i was there i mentioned to him about my ds's possibly having PANDAS and how i was wondering if my throat being sore sometimes and sinuses being stuffy could be from strep. he had never heard of PANDAS but thanked me for telling him. he started researching right there on his laptop in front of me about PANDAS. he said this is very interesting and i'm going to do more researching more about this because he said he feels like there is lots of autoimmune disorders that we don't know about. he suggested that it would be a good idea to have my nose swabbed for strep. he said sometimes there are strains of strep that hide out in the sinuses. i should find out next week if i tested pos. for strep. has any of your dr.'s tested you or your children for strep in your nose??

Thanks for telling us about this. I've had people ask me if my son has had this done and I was not really sure what it was. Please post and let us know the outcome!

Yes, strep can occur in the nose. However, if you have a sinus infection (which can also be caused by strep), it could be so high up that a swab won't reach it. Some sinus infections have only been found on PANDAS kids through MRI's!

My son had a nasal swab that came back negative, but ENT felt there still could be or was bacteria in the nasal passage. He mentioned nasal irrigation to me but we haven't been able to discuss it further.
