Need help in consulting with a doctor

We have found a DAN doctor 2-3 hours away and have recieved a list of protocol tests. I was also calling several naturpathic doctors nearer to me. Does anyone that has had success with a naturopath have any advice on questions to ask before making an appointment-questions to ask in order to be sure this doctor may can help me.

Thank you,

Hi Jennifer:

1) have they treated children with tics? What success have did they have?

2) If you get to talk to the doctor directly, then you can mention your child's symptoms --if he has anything beyond tics. What tests would they run on a child with tics and/or these symptoms. I know some found their doctors didn't want to run a lot of the tests, and some have found some frustration. If they don't mention a test you want, ask about it--e.g. metals/mercury, yeast, IgG food sensitivities. Get there opinion on them.

3) If they are not an MD, then how do they handle common tests that require a doctor's signature?

4) Do they make your child come to every visit, or can you do it without him after the initial visit. Do they do telephone appointments (esp. for the far away DAN doctor)?

5) Do they promote supplements over drugs? (I am not sure they all do this, I would make sure)

6) If they find elevated metals, what approach to they use? Chelation? Other? Opinions vary a lot here.

Did you call Pfeiffer to see if they had an outreach clinic coming to you? Though I know it is unlikely.

Claire,

I have checked with the Pfieffer Clinic. I am south of the Illinois location-about 8 or 9 hours. The outreach clinics would be even further distance-I believe.

The office of theDAN doctor told me that the second visit could be just the parents, but they did like for you to come back and discuss results.

I have called some naturopaths and they are all so different. Some do certain things and some don't.

Thanks for the suggestions on questions.
