Joan Pandas Mom Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Whatever I thought (wishfully) was working last week, isn't working this week. My son started 20 mg Straterra about 10 days ago. After about day 4 I saw improvements, but those are now gone. He is back to doing a ton of rituals. We consulted with Dr. K yesterday and we are going ahead with IVIG. I just hope he isn't too old and has had it for too long for the IVIG to work. Dr. K feels he has a 60-80% chance given his age. Can we ever put all of this behind us?

MomWithOCDSon Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Sorry for the setback! Not that IVIG isn't the right answer, but is there any chance he's adjusted to the initial Straterra dosage and an increase would be helpful? Our DS is taking Intuniv, and though the initial dose hit him pretty hard and strong, after about 10 days he adjusted to it to the extent that we stepped it up one more level. He's been at Level 2 (20 mgs.) for the last 3 months and continues to do pretty well, along with the abx. Also, not sure I've ever noted it, but how old is your DS? Ours is 13.
Joan Pandas Mom Posted April 9, 2010 Author Report Posted April 9, 2010 Thanks, this site really helps. I am so grateful my son is so strong willed. He just keeps on plugging or plowing away. These kids are truly amazing. Whatever I thought (wishfully) was working last week, isn't working this week. My son started 20 mg Straterra about 10 days ago. JAG10 Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Joan, Strattera dosage is based on weight. That seems really low for a 15 y.o. My dd10 weighs 80lbs and takes 40 mg. I'm pretty sure that the range for her weight is 40-55mg. Honestly, I'm not sure how much it is helping anymore, but she just finished her first pred. course and we don't want to change any other variables at this point. Our prayers that success is yours with IVIG. jill
Joan Pandas Mom Posted April 9, 2010 Author Report Posted April 9, 2010 Thanks for mentioning that. I was thinking I would take him off it completely. He is on 20 mg right now and we were suppose to increase it to 40 this week. I thought is took 2 weeks to get into the system, but maybe it did get in there quickly and now needs to be increased. I'll try going up and see how that goes.
