  1. 1. Were you strep B+ in pregnancy, received antibiotics at birth or post partum, had thrush in your nursing relationship and now have a child on the spectrum?

    • yes- that happened to me and I too have an autistic child.

My 7yr old son has just been diagnosed with Asperger's. One thing that has my attention is how interested the psychologist was in our thrush problem in our nursing relationship.

I will point out my son never received a single vaccine, was exclusively breast-fed for the first year and failed to self wean. At 4.5 years I sent him to grandmas to force the issue.

Anyway, I have been mulling over this question of candida and autism and the increase in autism in the US. I am a firm believer that yes, more people are being diagnosed, but also many, many more humans are being born autistic.

What has changed in birthing and infant care in the past 15 yrs that could cause this? One thing I know for sure is the routine administration of IV antibiotics to mothers who test positive for the Group B strep bacteria. There is a connection to this bacteria in the vagina and an infant disease (which I don't recall right now). So they decided just to give EVERY mother who has this bacteria antibiotics in labor. I was Group B+ and my midwife recommended a propolis and echinacea tincture for a week prior to my due date- which I did.

I had planned a home birth but at two weeks past due, I wound up in the hospital due to fetal distress in labor. I was given antibiotics in my IV, but even so ended up with my babe avoiding the birth canal all together, instead opting for the escape hatch.

So, yes, Hi. I forgot to introduce myself. I'm marigold- a likely asperger's mom of an aspberger's boy.

Please respond to my poll.

Thank you and if you know of anyone else investigating this link please share what you know.

interesting marigold! i am usually over on the pandas board. with my older son, i had group b strep, abx and a horrible thrush issue - he didn't have trouble/ i had horrible trouble. i finally took diflucan -- it was that or stop nursing. with my younger - now pandas - i was not group b +, had no abx but started again with thrush with nursing. i took diflucan. i have wondered if there was some connection with his now trouble with pandas.
