He said it sounds more like bronchitis than pneumonia. The doc is putting her on augmentin for 10 days. I didn't know what questions to ask. He didn't do any tests to find out exactly what it is. She was tested for mycoplasma but that was on 3/22 so I guess that won't help for what's going on now. She's currently on 500 mg zithromax a day.

Sorry to hear that she is sick. My older son (non-PANDAS) had bronchitis after the flu this past winter. The dr at his college said pneumonia but our family dr saw him a few days later and said it was bronchitis. Something about the sounds in his chest. One sounds more like marbles but I can't remember if that was bronchitis or pneumonia. I hope she feels better soon.

Did you get your results from the myco testing? I read that bronchitis can be caused by Mycoplasma.

I have not gotten the results yet. If the test was on Monday but she didn't develop the cough until Thursday do you think it would show up in the test if it was mycoplasma? But she was having that problem with having to move her thumbs and toes, etc. by the day after the myco test.

I have a feeling that if she got tested on Monday, but cough didn't develop until Thurs, you can still get results that may indicate infection (if that's what she has). If you are doubtful or nervous about the blood test results, you can do them again in 2 weeks.

I believe with Mycoplasma, I read that little hair like things paralyze causing the cough. So, I would think that takes at least a few days to happen.

I have nothing medical to back up what I just said.

So, was she already on Zith , and at that doasge, when the coughing started or was the Zith added or increased when the cough started?

She was on 500mg of zith already when the cough started (has been at that dose for a few months) and we just added the augmentin yesterday.

I am anxious for the test results!

If the test results come back and shows she had/has Mycoplasma P, are you going to ask your doctor about switching her to a dif med (like possibly Biaxin or Biaxin XL-I think that's what the suffix is)? If it is Myco, Augmentin wouldn't touch that.

When do expect the results back by?

Yes for sure! I think our neuro will treat if it comes back showing mycop. I hope to hear in another week.
