coco Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 This is like my dds -- it's not red from over-washing, just reddish, like almost windburned only on the tops of the hands and tops of fingers. It comes and goes. I've tried to connect it with something particular thing she's doing but I haven't been able to.
dcmom Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 DD had the same thing recently. Looked like windburn or chapped hands- on the top of her hands. I have to FORCE her to wash- with pandas, she doesn't like wetness. She was fine during the "hand rash", searched online but couldn't find a photo that matched. It definitely seemed to flare a bit at night. We did a little vaseline on it for a week at night, and it went away. Interestingly, the following week she had a very slight ramp in symptoms- I think/thought due to strep exposure at school. What could this be?
earnestfamily7 Posted March 27, 2010 Author Report Posted March 27, 2010 I am going to start paying attention to my DD and DS's hands and how they look in conjunction with their symptoms... It could be seen as an OCD overwashing rash.... but when there is no washing or no overwashing there must be another cause.... I wonder how many other PANDAS kids have this red hand thing going on - with my kids it definitely coincides with a ramp up... Is it possible that it could be similar to an allergic reaction... for example the PANDAS child is exposed to strep and then gets the symptoms and on the hands the skin gets a form of allergic dermatitis? ~ Simplygina - we are still on the augmentin - I want to give it a chance to work - I am going to start another post to see how long for progress with rages as it seems many of her other symptoms are going away
coco Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 I spoke with Diana about this today...she said it was definitely related to autoimmune issues, a type of psoriasis. Makes sense. Should go away eventually with ivig. I haven't seen this on my dd for a couple of months, but will surely keep and eye on it.
