swim Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 We have T&A surgery scheduled for April 1st (seems like a fitting day!) and I was wondering why I see so many recommendations to switch to clindamycin 7 to 10 days before surgery. Why don't people stay on their regular antibiotics prior to surgery? When they remove the adenoids, they will also be removing a 1 centimeter cyst that is on one of the adenoids. I got the ENT to agree to do a biopsy and culture following the surgery, so curious about what we might find.
P_Mom Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 To remove any pobbile carrier state or any strep....clindamycin is considered the best for that....it is strong, though...watch for tummy upset!
Joan Pandas Mom Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Great idea to have it biopsied. I wish I had thought of it too. ENT said he was pretty sure there was strep in there from what he saw. His T&A was after he had been on an abx for 7 weeks.
bubbasmom Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 What a good thought - the clyndamycin and the biopsy. We ended up doing clydamycin just as a an antibiotic treatment. i didn't notice any difference from the Augmentin. But my doctor did say that's the drug they use to MAKE SURE there's no strep lingering anyway.
