I did see the Living Withoiut Magazine at Mustard Seed (Local store) and wasnt sure if it was worth the money...

i got the living without magazine from my library - check that out.

we use dr. sears liquid fish oil. i tried many that they hated . . . and i can't really blame them, as it is fish oil! this has a lemon flavor and my 5 year old said, "mama, it tastes like the lemon icing bread from the coffee shop." i put it in oj, and still call it "orange juice vitamin" so not to call up any bad feelings about the fish oils we tried.

Keep in mind that in looking at Omega-3 supplements, the EPA/DHA ratio is really critical if you actually read the research studies on psych illnesses. I had a doc who was involved in the Harvard research at one point (on the research team), and she turned me on to this info. I have experienced this in my own history, and with my kids, too. For optimal therapeutic effect, you need an EPA/DHA ratio of at least 7:1. Very few brands offer this, and most of them you need to get on-line. Most of the drug-store and gummy-vite types have ratios of 3:2, and in our experience, those haven't helped a whit, whereas the 7:1 ratios have helped dramatically. My kids take the 7:1, and they have not even had to be on prophylactic antibiotics. Ds6 had a significant episode in late Dec/early Jan after major dental work, and that required 10 days of antibiotics. I found out afterwards that dh, who normally dispenses the morning supps, had unintentionally cut ds6's fishoil supplement for several weeks before and after that (argh!). Ds went back on the fish-oil at an appropriate dose once I learned about that lapse, and he has since had another round of major dental work and 2 lost baby teeth, plus had a sick brother, father, and best friend, without a PANDAS episode and with only 3 days of antibiotics (prescribed prophylactically for the dental work). In fact, yesterday he even put on an outfit that he wasn't willing to wear at all during the inadequately-dosed months, voluntarily and with no word about it, and last week-end he put on all of his ski gear with no complaint whatsoever - and that was right after the dental work! We were having a REALLY rough time with the hypersensory stuff during those weeks that he was off of his fishoil and subsequent to that last round of dental work.

In my own history, EPA/DHA 7:1 supplements at sufficient doses have unequivocally been the best treatment I have ever received, supplement-wise or pharmaceutical-wise. "Sufficient doses" have been about double the dose on the label (I always check the studies and check with the manufacturer to make sure it's ok.)

Omegabrite offers a good-tasting liquid supplement with this ratio for kids, and now that my ds6 can swallow capsules, we've moved him to Nature's Way EFA Gold MoodAid (cheaper than Omegabrite). There is also a manufacturer that offers small capsules for kids. Can't recall the name now but I could look it up if anyone needs the info.
