I took dd7 to our immunologist today to get established as a patient in the event that her pandas gets worse. She's in a pretty good place right now, not perfect but managing well. Before antibiotics her symptoms were primarily hoarding, food restriction, age regression and non-verbal but zithromax pretty much makes them go away and her OCD is managable.

I had to take her off her allergy meds a week ago so she could get skin tested today. She was only allergic to dust mites but it was a fairly severe reaction. So, she starts new meds today and we are thinking about allergy shots. I don't seem to be as concerned about allergy shots for her as I am for her sister because she does not seem to react to other colds, flu, etc as her sister does.

But, since I took her off her allergy meds, she's been a wreck this week. She's been angry, mocking, hitting, more selfish than usual, screaming. It will be interesting to see if she improves once back on the allergy meds. If so, I'd say that's confirmed for us that allergies do trigger her.

Our immunologist will review her history and maybe we will have more info on her but I don't expect to learn too much more I guess.

What allergy meds is she taking?

Like I've said before, allergies is a trigger for my son. Also, dust mites in particular are very bad rightnow. So couple that with being severely allergic......well...I feel bad for her :(

She's having her start allegra and nasacort. I have not filled the prescriptions yet but did start her back on zyrtec yesterday to get us through until I get the meds. I really need to get hardwoods put in our bedrooms but I have no money!!

Well, if the time came and you did do hard woods, go on vacation while they're done. Pulling carpet up is nasty and very unhealthy for the immune system. If you haven't had your furnace and air ducts cleaned, I suggest doing it. At the very least, the air ducts. We have a smaller house (1600 square foot bi-level) and it costs maybe $200 for the ducts. It was disgusting seeing how much fecal matter the dust mites leave. I believe that's what people are allergic too...what they leave behind. You could get a air purifier with HEPA filter for the bedroom. I think a smaller one is under $50. Let us know how she is once on allergy meds again. It took my son maybe 3-5 days for his PANDAS symptoms to get under control once starting allergy meds.

Just a little update on our allergy trigger situation. I noticed today that dd7 is doing much better. She has stopped hitting and over reacting and no more mocking. Last weekend we covered her bed and pillows, got everything washed, carpet cleaned, etc. for dustmites. She's back on the allergy meds and I started her back on motrin 2x a day. She's still reacting to her sister but she can play nicely with friends again and pull herself together when I get involved with negative sibling interactions. Another thing I noticed is that she is trying and enjoying different foods that in the past she would not try or would try and immediately say she didn't like.

Glad things are working out Susan. My son started allergy shots this morning (2 of them). He started Veramyst 2 weeks ago and just a few days ago his eye tics, which were really bad, have gone from an 8 to about a 2.... They say the Veramyst takes awhile to get in the system, so it must be working now.

Our immunologist and Pandas doc thought his tics were triggered by his allergies... I really think this might work. It's the last symptom were working on clearing.

We also just tested him this week for IGE food senistivities (Direct Labs), just in case he's eating something that is pushing his immune system to over drive.

Hope things continue to improve for you.

Please let me know how the IgE tesg goes for you. I am interested in that as well, and the shots.

My 8 yr old dd is doing OK on her allergy shots but she is ramped up. I can tell they are making her skin very itchy and she is more emotional and unreasonable. So far I am managing so we are going to keep on with it and try to break through to the other side.
