earnestfamily7 Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 I thought I would let everyone know about some of the therapies that we used with our son when he was first diagnosed..... During my son's 1st major exasperation there was a group of therapists and doctors that believed that he had PANDAS even when the drs at Rainbow Baibies in Cleveland said 'might be... wait to see if it happens again.... ' They were the 1st people I called when the OCD got out of control and he was getting progressively worse... The psychologist there told me about PANDAS and we have been on the same path as many people on this board since.... but what really stands out for us is that this group of specialists (psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and autism therapists all recognized that something was wrong! and they wanted to do whatever they could to help - they told me they would do everything they could but they could not write me a prescription b/c they were not MDs.... the therapies that Jordan went through included - The Listening Therapy Program (we did this at home w/instruction provided from specialist), Brain Builders, Nuero-Net, Metronome, large motor and fine motor OT. We went 2xs peer week for almost 2 years... Jordan had many gains and some set backs (due to illness and me having to the convince the Ped to give antibiotic even when no evidence of infection (thankfully this has improved) The therapists that he worked with said that they were going to approach it as 'resetting his brain' - I was in awe with the amount of time and effort that was given toward making him well... These therapies did not cure him but they did give him some coping strategies and they also helped to bring him back to 'normal' - this was all done with no psy meds - (we tried zolft - it mae things 100xs worse) I am working on getting my daughter in with this group and have faith that they can help her with coping strategies too. As sometimes I think the kids need a bit more than what they are hearing from a psychologist I thought some of you might find this usefull as we all need as many tools as we can get to fight against this frustrating disorder.
