Did your child have tics/OCD before PANDAS?

I answered "no" but I wanted to clarify.

My son has had OC tendencies (does not interfere with life) from a very young age- but it doesn't become a disorder (disabling him) until strep.

I put scientist for my husband's occupation as he has a degree in computer science. He is now a web developer. However, before getting that degree, his first degree was in graphic design and illustration and he did that for a number of years. As for myself, I put other. I am a nurse practitioner (OBGYN).

I'm not sure if our son had symptoms before PANDAS like symptoms. To me, it is a blurred line. He was three when I noticed something, but that is in hindsight to the explosion from when he was four. I mean, all kids do unusual things sometimes and I only later realized his sx at age 3 were probably related. And, our son had strep and was sick so much I would have to say yes that it was related to illness but would that be because he was sick often and it just appeared to be with symptoms? Another reason to see the immunologist, which we have not yet done. But, as in my fist post, most times now I can see the correlation with illnesses.

The math thing is so interesting, my son also was very advanced in math- he went from being in gifted in talented one year to remedial help 6 months later.

This is not related to math, but my son went from advanced above level reading to average and most recently failed his state reading assessment test in reading.

7up and reactive--

Our d also was advanced academically (assessed as gifted) and then after Pandas she needed special ed. support -- in math and writing. The school last year (5th grade) told us they would no longer grade her for writing as it would be an F. After 3 months of full strength antibiotics (where each week we could literally SEE an improvement in OCD/mild tics) and one steroid burst, the teacher emailed me a note saying she was seeing a different child then they had seen all year! (April!)

Good news--She continued to improve and a year later is back to straight A's, report card came home today.

I can't help but believe it is treatable--may take time, and sometimes a long time, but with effective treatment there is hope.

Confused? Are you saying we should poll how many children has a vaccine(s) just prior to the onset of PANDAS? With or without an illness soon afeter (ie: strep infection, URI, flu, etc..)???

I say, start the poll!

LJM

I really am curious if vaccines are not related to onset of PANDAS. Can we get a vote on Vaccine_Strep_PANDAS?
