Tigger013 Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Hello- Does anyone know if Dr. K in Chicago has appointments that are not insured. I set up an appointment and it cost $350 for consultation and it needs to be sent in before the appointment is made. I was hoping that there is some doctors in the Chicago area, including Dr. K, that accepts insurance. I want to treat my child for potential PANDAS, but at this rate I don't know where it will end with the final total and no coverage. Is this common not to find doctors that do this with out insurance coverage? Any suggestions, please send them my way. Thank you.

Dr. K. happens to be an "in network" provider via my group insurance policy (BCBS of Illinois), so one would expect any standard visit/consultation/evaluation by him would be covered to the extent any "in network" visit is covered: co-pay and then, in my case, 80%. I think the trickier coverage issues have to do with actual PANDAS treatments, like IVIG.
dabel Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 The face to face appt was covered by our insurance. If you live in the area I would recommend this anyway. From what I understand phone consults are usually not covered by insurance.

I want so desperately to help my daughter, but feel that the hype is going to let me down. Any suggestions, please guide me as to what I would expect from the consult in person. Thank you.
P_Mom Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Our phone consult and office visit with him was covered by our insurance...Highmark PPO. (PA) We did send in the money for the phone consult beforehand...but were reimbursed after Dr. K's office submitted it to insurance.
