Tattoomom Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 I've heard several times from different Pediatricians that babies under 2 years old usually don't get strep. Is that true?!
peglem Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 I've heard several times from different Pediatricians that babies under 2 years old usually don't get strep. Is that true?! Maybe the usually part is true. I think its based on temporary immunity passed on from the mother. But I've heard of many pediatrician who don't believe its even possible for infants to get strep.
thereishope Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 When my son gets strep I take everyone in. I was told they didn't need to do a strep test on my then 2 year old because kids under the age of 3 don't get strep. I insisted. My 5 year old PANDAS son is asymptomatic. I didn't know if that was the case for my other children. So, they finally swabbed her. Well, she had strep. That was when I found out all 3 of my kids are asymptomatic. None get classic symptoms. My then 2 year old and 7 year old went to the ped's office laughing, smiling, etc. No symptoms at all.
Suzan Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 Both my girls had strep the first time under the age of 2. One at 16 months old and the other was around 12 months old. They don't get typical signs of strep either. I know I believed infants did not get strep but now I know that is not true! SUsan
smartyjones Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 i believe my pandas son, now 5, got his initial pandas strep incident when 22 months old. my older son had as his only symptom white acnelike pimples on his face. he was positive on the rapid. the next day, 22 month old threw up - only symptom. he was also positive on rapid. they never would have tested him except that older brother was positive the day before.
