monarchcat Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 I think I'd like to try magnesium with my son. We did a month of prednisone and seem to have come out the other side with worse tics and PANDASy irritability, etc. We had a few good days about a week after the pred ended, but things have gone downhill since. I'm not sure if it's because everyone around him is sick (his sister has had a cold and many kids are sick at school) or if the antibiotic (azith, 250mg/day) isn't working or if it's something else, but I've been reading that there seems to be a connection between bed wetting and tics and magnesium deficiency. He is 8 and has never been dry at night for longer than a couple weeks at a time. I know this is PANDAS-related as well, though. I have read on this site about Kids Calm, but didn't like what I read on ConsumerLabs about Peter Gillham's Natural Calm having lead in the samples that they tested. Since my son can swallow pills, can I give him a magnesium/calcium supplement in pill form? What dosage do you use if you give magnesium? Has anyone seen positive (or negative) results?
Suzan Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 The best way is through epsom salt baths or foot soaks from what I understand. It has been very helpful for us. Otherwise, I have given Natural Calm which I think was fine but it is not so easy to hide for the taste sensitive. Pills can help but they are hard to absorb. We also have a liquid spray that I like to rub on their feet at night. I find that it helps them sleep and also is calming. DD8 can often feel her anger leaving in a salt soak (if I can get her in the bath). http://www.care2.com/greenliving/health-be...alt-baths.html#

We'll definitely have to include those at least 3 times/week!
