Kayanne Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 "Rheumatic fever is an inflammatory disease that may develop two to three weeks after a Group A streptococcal infection (such as strep throat or scarlet fever). It is believed to be caused by antibody cross-reactivity and can involve the heart, joints, skin, and brain." The bolding is mine, but this is the first line in the wikipedia entry under Rhumatic Fever...roads are being paved! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhumatic_fever
Kayanne Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 I think I got too excited...I just realized that they were probably refering to Sydenham's Chorea.
thereishope Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 I think PANDAS appears on the wikipedia site as well. I even saw it referenced for comparison when I looked to see what SC was.
Worried_Dad Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Yeah, but don't read about PANDAS there. It'll just tick you off. The PANDAS content on Wikipedia is being maintained by some hardcore "PANDAS skeptics" who believe we are all "desperate parents looking for a quick fix" who don't want to admit their kids just have Tourette's. Sigh.... See EAMom's posts about Buster's frustrating attempts to educate them. If I hear one more "medical expert" dismiss all of our real-world experiences as "anecdotal and therefore irrelevant" I'm gonna go postal!!! I think PANDAS appears on the wikipedia site as well. I even saw it referenced for comparison when I looked to see what SC was.
thereishope Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 I read that post after I posted this. When I go on the forum, I never know if I should start on the top of topics or start where I left off on the bottom. Yeah, but don't read about PANDAS there. It'll just tick you off.
