Guest KDW
Has anyone had any success with the Feingold Diet for TS or ADHD??
Frank_Sm1th
Dear KDW- Yes. The Feingold book "Why Can't My Child Behave?" got us on the right path. I'm not sensitive to salicylates, but my wife & sons are. The Feingold program has helped all of us, though. Looking back, the change in the whole family is miraculous and we can't believe intelligent folks like us could have eaten what we used to, considering the obvious effects the food additives had on us. Are you or your loved ones sensitive to salicylates? Additives? Frank
Claire
KDW, if you use Google to search this site on Feingold, you will see a lot. A huge percentage of us notice sensitivities to artificial colors/flavors. Some, but fewer, have issues with salycites. I think that most of us also have kids who tested positive for other food sensitivities, so I recommend checking that out also. Claire
Guest Jeff
KDW, Yes, our family has had great success with the Feingold diet. Both of my daughters and I have TS-related tics. When my oldest was in 1st grade, the tics began to get really bad, and there were problems in school. We were fortunate enough to find the FG program, and ever since then the tics have not been an issue at all. When we deviate too badly, we start to tic again. However, once we get ourselves cleaned out again, the tics are essentially gone. For us, the main triggers are the artificial flavors and colors, preservatives BHT, BHA, and TBHQ, and Corn Syrup. My oldest (who is 12 now) does have some sensitivity to salicylates, but, as long as we don't overdo it, she can tolerate them pretty well. I encourage you to try it. It can be overwhelming at first, but once you establish a new shopping list, it gets easier. If you do start, don't give up if you don't see results right away. For many families, there is a "detox" period of up to 6 weeks before they see any results. But once they pass the detox period, the improvements are remarkable. In our case, we saw improvements in a couple of weeks after eliminating the colors and flavors from our diet. Good luck. Jeff
Guest Guest_efgh
Jeff, a quick question - are your children practically tic free with feingold diet? Is TV a trigger for them ? Have you noticed any tics due to TV? thanks.
Guest Jeff
efgh, Yes, our children are virtually tic free when on FG. TV does not seem to be a trigger for us. I've never noticed any tics caused by TV.... Jeff
